Takes on four last-start winners but the three-year-old gelding has gone close in some solid races this campaign, including a third behind Squid Game in December at Flemington. The step up to 1400m looks ideal.

UMGAWA (R7 No.5 – $5)

Looks ready now after a pair of seconds behind smart gallopers Squid Game and Decent Raine this campaign, and is a good each-way hope. Will now jump from barrier eight after a couple of scratchings.

The filly should improve up to 1200m and back around a bend after a satisfactory return behind promising sprinter Clemenceau on New Year’s Day.
