Handy mare with solid provincial form resuming here in a winnable race off a very good recent trial win.

Turned in the best run of her short career so far when taking a lot of ground of the winner at Scone last time out.

Race 5, No.16: RUBI AIR

A great deal to like about her first two runs; could easily peak here and progress quickly.

Third-up today off the back of two encouraging and creditable performances at Wagga and Wangaratta respectively.

THE INSIDE MAIL FOR ORANGE

RACE 4

La Tigresa handed in the best run of the current campaign last start on December 12 when she finished second in the Armidale Cup over the mile. In respect to the 2100m, she is very fit, her pattern says ‘no issues’ and she was beaten a neck at 1800m one day at Hawkesbury. We do know that Private Detective is zero query at the trip or the track for that matter given that he just charged over the top of them to win that 2100m Bm58 here two weeks ago. Sprout Wings was narrow runner-up in a 2100m Class 1 last start.

Bet: La Tigresa to win, quinella 1,2

RACE 5

Rubi Air is a lightly-raced daughter of the stakes-winning mare Hairy. This Rodney Northam trained three-year-old showed improvement from her first run to the next, not that the debut didn’t contain some merit. Bottom line is, if she improves again on that Scone run, she will go close here. Are You Certain is a 12-start maiden that has finished second on four occasions. Drawn well for this and the trial win at Dubbo was mightily impressive. Super Lizzie has shown enough in her trials to suggest she will run well here.

RACE 6

Euphrates Dream is a Matthew Smith trained filly out of Sheer Style who won the Ballarat Magic Millions 2YO Classic at her first start. Euphrates Dream took six starts to win her first race; that was at Mudgee on December 3 where she nailed subsequent Gosford winner Wolf Queen right on the post. Prior to that, Smith’s filly was third to Clemenceau and Pizarro no less at Hawkesbury. Charlie Chap seems to love coming out to Orange. The 65-start veteran has raced here 9 times for two wins and three placings. Go well again. Absolutely Foxy has the draw to win if good enough.

Bet: Euphrates Dream to win, quinella 9,10

RACE 7

Temoin Chaud has also accepted for Corowa where she also drew barrier 3. If she comes to Orange, it will be her second visit bearing in mind that she broke her maiden at the venue back in April 2020. She’s won three more races since. It was very nearly four more but for that neck second in the Bell Of The South at Nowra on December 5. Shameonus is a huge watch. The Bjorn Baker-trained gelding has won twice at the provincials including a barnstorming debut win at Hawkesbury. he could charge over the top here late. American Salute should be able to compete at this level with all that provincial form of his.

THE INSIDE MAIL FOR COROWA

RACE 4

The aforementioned Temoin Chaud can’t be in two places at once so it’s either Orange in the last race or this one at Corowa. Wherever she goes, she will take some beating on that second at Nowra in the Belle of the South. Denmiss has been going super this summer with ‘thirds’ on either side of the win at the Sapphire Coast. No reason why she won’t be in the finish again. Market watch is essential vis-a-vie Power Me Up first-up in a while.

RACE 5

Lunar Kiss has drawn the outside barrier here but she will likely go back again and be saved for the last crack at them. The Donna Scott trained daughter of Puissance De Lune has been building momentum towards what would be her first win. This might be the day. Victory Chuckle was $2.30 when he was safely held by the winner here 12-days ago. Disappointing if you backed him but that run was probably sufficient to win this time. Fil was about a half-length behind Victory Chuckle that day. Coin Drop will win a race one day.

RACE 6

Phil Sweeney had six of the 12 in the final field and you would have to give pretty much all of them some sort of chance. Me? I thought the best of them is Rubiland, the daughter of Rubick, who has her first start for Sweeney here on December 16. Barrier 10 of 11 was no help at all, to finish where she did, as ‘close’ as she did - was an honourable performance. Hi Poppy has been consistent without winning. That said, she went as close as she ever has when runner-up here in a 1000m maiden 12-days ago. Gobbo’s Mate ran way, way above her $81 starting price in the ‘Rubiland race’.

RACE 7

Snowbella is a grey daughter of So You Think trained by Mitchell Beer at Albury. This four-year-old mare has a tidy C.V of three wins and two seconds from her eight starts. You would imagine that with her pedigree, she is going to get better as time goes by and that may be happening already because she won her trial like a bomb the other day. Beautiful Bee has won over $200,000 thanks to 8 wins and 13 placings, one of those placings was here at her only other visit. Gironde needs to improve on his last couple but is capable of sneaking a place.

Bet: Snowbella to win
