THE INSIDE MAIL FOR HAWKESBURY
RACE 1
Aureus Angel is trained locally by Edward Cummings whose father, Anthony, trained this mare’s sire and dam. She’s very well bred by the way’ her fourth dam is the mother of Barathea. As for Aureus Angel, she was $21 into $10 on debut at Gosford and another stride and her canny backers would have scooped the pool. Hypnosis has placed on a Heavy 9 and strikes this race third-up off a November 4 second here. The Lou Mary-trained Proverbial was runner-up to a smart subsequent winner in I’m Not Slew last time out.
Bet: Aureus Angel to win, box trifecta 1,2,8
RACE 2
Ribeauville is a lightly-raced four-year-old with four runs under the belt for two placings. All in all, that was a very encouraging first campaign given that this horse always promised to be better with a little bit of time and a bit more ground. Two things to note; one being that he was beaten a lip at his only Heavy track start and two, he’s been trialling like a bomb. Critical Time was safe around the $9.50 on debut here on October 26 but his prospects went south with a tardy start. Has the talent. Notabadbet ran really well first-up in a deep maiden.
Bet: Ribeauville to win
RACE 3
Carartie has been nominated for Canterbury on Friday night and Kembla the day after as insurance here given that this meeting is/was in doubt. It would certainly pay to keep an eye on those two venues in case she shows up there because in short - she’s flying. The cleverly named Miss Milton (whose mother is Paradise Lost) was arguably, nay probably, a good thing beaten in the $200,000 Inglis Challenge as a 2YO in May. This race has fallen away significantly so she more than gets her chance for a well-earned win. Bayonets is a ‘watch horse’ here; the last trial was better than it looks on paper.
Bet: Carartie to win but if scratched, Miss Milton to win
RACE 4
Members Only is a lightly-raced four-year-old trained by Nathan Doyle. A son of Toronado (sire of Masked Crusader), Members Only was very good indeed in his first two starts before hitting a few hurdles. He starts off again with a fresh slate - oh, and two fantastic trials. Drawn well and almost beat Calgary Queen at his only Heavy track run. Colour De Roy has only won once in seven starts but the upside to that is that he beat Satin Ribbons that afternoon on a Soft 7. Be in the contest for a long way. Ditto that for the handsome Monte Di Fiore from the Greg Hickman camp, especially from box one.
Bet: Members Only to win
RACE 5
Five Crowns has accepted for Port Mac on Friday and could easily go there; he’ll be nice and short if he does and rightly so. Unbeaten, untapped but sadly, unlikely. Lou Mary has done a fabulous job with Nitride since he bought him for $12,000 online (Inglis) in October 2020. Nitride was super impressive and brilliantly piloted when he won at Newcastle. Underwhelming in the Jungle Juice Cup last start but too consistent to sack on one ‘bad’ run. Dynasties will maybe go to Kembla on Saturday. Not sure, but a big track like that would certainly play to her pattern. Demanding Mo is ‘peaking’ but doesn’t seem to be a muddie.
Bet: Five Crowns to win but if scratched, Nitride to win
RACE 6
Unwavering Faith got a gem of a ride by Ash Morgan to win the Cessnock Cup. Even so, kudos to horse and trainer (Nathan Doyle) given that she did it at only her 10th start. That’s four wins and two seconds now and she’s not done with winning yet. Perhaps the most crucial stat on her C.V is that she has raced four times on heavy tracks for two wins and a second. Lord Desanimaux is not a guaranteed starter but has to go in somewhere if he makes the trip. Rodrick’s Secret was scratched from Gosford yesterday. If ever a horse is looking for 2000m, it’s this one. Times that by two for Private Detective.
Bet: Unwavering Faith to win
RACE 7
You don’t see too many ‘young’ Testa Rossa’s around the pace but here’s one - Soarhi, who is from the great racehorse and stallion’s 17th and second last crop before he retired. Soarhi, like his dad, managed to win on debut and what was striking about that day was that it was a very deep maiden given that I Am Lethal was second and Mirra Vision’s sister Mirra View was third. Yumi has strung together back-to-back wins this time in, the most recent of the two was here at Hawkesbury on October 26 where she should plenty of grit to repel the challengers. Breeding note; she is by Lonhro out of a half-sister to Black Caviar. Remus is a talented horse who did some very nice things at his first prep.
Bet: Soarhi to win or, if scratched, Yumi to win, Remus to place
