Herald Sun form analyst Brad Waters runs the rule over Wednesday’s Sandown Hillside meeting.

BEST BET

RISING (Race 4 No.4 – $3.20)

Opened his career with an outstanding maiden win at Stawell. Steps up to Class 1 company at Sandown but he’s a colt with plenty of ability.

NEXT BEST

MOKTAFFY (Race 1 No.5 – $4.60)

The Chris Waller-trained import made late ground when not far away at his Australian debut and will improve sharply for that run. He’s capable of notching his first local win at Sandown.

SHEER TREASURE (Race 7 No.13 – $3.40)

Sheer Treasure powered home to win a good form race at The Valley two runs back but didn’t get a great deal of luck last. Expecting the Hawkes Racing-trained mare to improve on the bigger Sandown track.

OCEAN’S JEN (Race 8 No.15 – $5.50)

Ocean’s Jen will make her debut for the Maher and Eustace camp on Wednesday after two excellent winter runs. She’s promising and has had more time to develop.

VALUE BET

QUEEN ADELE (Race 6 No.4 – $7)

Queen Adele gets her chance to break through a for a win after a consistent run of form that included a solid effort over 2040m at The Valley last start. A repeat of that would get her into the finish at Sandown.

THE JOCKEY

JAMIE KAH

Jamie Kah has steadily built her city wins tally since returning to the saddle last month and is a chance for more success at Sandown. TEMPEST CHARM (Race 1 No.14 – $2.40), SHALILY (Race 2 No.12 – $8), CIRCLE OF MAGIC (Race 4 No.9 – $6), OH SO FAR (Race 6 No.11 – $8.50).

THE WEEK AHEAD

Wangaratta holds the last pre-Christmas Victorian meeting on Thursday. Racing takes a break on Christmas Eve and Christmas Day before a big Boxing Day program that includes the traditional Caulfield card as well as meetings at Geelong, Kerang, Nhill, and the Drouin picnic fixture. Stony Creek races on Monday.
