TAMWORTH

BEST BET

Race 1, No.6: OAKFIELD REDGUM

Lightly-raced Dundeel filly who has a couple of Newcastle placings and a last start closing fourth at Muswellbrook on her C.V. Close to winning.

NEXT BEST

Race 3, No.3: LOVE RAT

Tipped out after a moderate debut here back in mid-February. Better than that and the trials have been spot on for a bold bid.

VALUE BET

Race 7, No.13: KANALAIDE

Handsome and thus somewhat typical son of Adelaide. Has a moderate sized X-factor about him. Enough to make an impression here no doubt.

QUADDIE

Race 5: 3,6,10,11

Race 6: 1,2,3,4

Race 7: 3,5,13

Race 8: 6,10

THE INSIDE MAIL FOR TAMWORTH

RACE 1

Oakfield Redgum is a filly with a future, certainly once she steps up to a mile and even 2400m perhaps. She has the pedigree to run that fat being by Dundeel out of a Danewin mare who was herself out of a daughter of Naturalism. Oakfield Redgum is third-up here, maybe would have liked it 1600m for her, but she is good enough to deal with that. Riley Park is a hundred times better than the Gunnedah run would suggest. Probably wants 1400m now. James Bester’s Kia Ora mare Angel Sistina is getting close to an overdue win.

Bet: Oakfield Redgum to win

RACE 2

Sharkosphere is a lightly-raced mare who has always shown a bit. She almost broke her maiden on debut and while she hasn’t won in her subsequent four starts, she has run well at all of them (bar one). Just a pattern thing with her; she needs pace on and a clear crack at them. This would have to be the easiest race Alegna has run in so far. Not to say it’s ‘easy’ of course but a step down in some of the maidens she has contested in her short career. Wise to overlook Tyquendo’s first-up run here.

Bet: Sharkosphere to win, quinella 6,11

RACE 3

Love Rat is quite a striking type by the prolific stallion, Love Conquers All. This Cody Morgan-trained gelding started $7 when he finished eighth of 14 at his only start which was here at home back on Feb 11. No doubt he is lengths better than that and he looked pretty good in a deep four horse heat at Scone recently. Caroline Bay is trained by Kris Lees and is a granddaughter of one of his father Max’s handful of Coolmore Classic winners, Shindig. Down in class and ‘up’ in experience. Russian Standard goes quick but is not terribly reliable.

Bet: Love Rat to win

RACE 4

Ostracised was kept safe at $4.20 when he resumes despite coming up against his then unbeaten stablemate Le Melody. Ostracised tried to go with Le Melody but was no match ate, finishing four lengths behind on fourth. No disgrace in that and he will be fitter for the outing. Scarzel has Golden Slipper form. Well, only if you think 11-lengths 11 of 12 to Stay Inside in a 1000m 2YO Handicap passes for ‘Slipper form’. To be serious and fair to Scarzel, he has been very good since he left Sydney to go bush. Emissive has claims and a fascinating pedigree too; his grandam is Jezabeel.

Bet: Ostracised to win

RACE 5

Exolay is entered for a race at Taree on Tuesday but this race really is a peach for the Exosphere filly even though it is 14m shorter than the Taree race. Looking at her pattern, you would think that she will need every inch of the mile to reel them in but at the end of the day, she is probably the most naturally talented horse in the race. Lady Audrey has nominated for that same race at Taree, the track and distance of her commanding five length maiden win the other day. Does Starboard Light race handier from one? Possibly so. Cliffs Of Moher has claims.

Bet: Exolay to win

RACE 6

Tiempe Passate is a blue-blooded daughter of I Am Invincible out of a Redoute’s Choice mare, etc. She has been with Cody Morgan for the last two of her eight career starts. Her Morgan debut here was borderline heroic - mark that down as a moral victory. Won for real here on July 8; draw awfully but she might just be better than them. Media Man ran a better race than it appears on paper last start. Has a nice draw (1) and peaks third-up perhaps. Global Encounter - in the Mahtoum colours - has a bad draw but a good deal of talent. Afewchoicewords and Oakfield Hibiscus are in the medal mix.

Bet: Tiempe Passate to win, Media Man to place

Jockey Andrew Gibbonscan land a race-to-race double for Cody Morgan with Tiempe Passate and Kanalaide. Picture: AAP Image

RACE 7

Kanalaide is a striking son of his striking father, Adelaide. If you look at his pedigree, he should be being set for Melbourne Cups with dam-sires like Starcraft, Sadler’s Wells, Law Society and Mossborough. You would imagine they take him to a mile at least this prep but can see him ambushing these others late. Lonely Power has done some good things in his six starts including a third at Newcastle first-up behind the handy Rocstar Boy. Highway placed Dashka hasn’t won below 1300m but that could change here.

Bet: Kanalaide to win

RACE 8

Casino Lord has a very good record in terms of strike-rate with 12 starts, three wins and five placings alongside his name. By far the most compelling, nay, exciting, statistic is that he raced at this same track and distance five times for three wins and a second. On top of that, he has run some huge races in a couple of Highways downtown. Very Sharp is not so sharp early but she is razor sharp late. We know Casino Lord will be flashing up late here, he’ll probably have Bucko and Very Sharp for company up the stretch. Highlights and Into The Fire are best of the rest.

Bet: Casino Lord to win, quinella 6,10
