Race 1, No.12: SIZZLE NICKEL

Flashy filly who put the writing on the wall for a debut win winning a trial last month.

NEXT BEST

Race 3, No.5 DIMITRI

Noel Mayfield-Smith-trained gelding who is winless after 15 starts but has never been closer to a breakthrough than now.

VALUE BET

Race 6, No.6: STREET POWER

Good horse on his day and well catered for in the Flying from barrier 3 and not a whole lot of weight.

THE INSIDE MAIL FOR GOULBURN

RACE 5

Apollo Josh is a grandson of the great broodmare Parfore, dam of Tiger Tees, Terravista, Ball of Muscle et al. This Fastnet Rock son had one run in Melbourne for the Hayes’ back in January 2021. Now with Jason Coyle, the trials this May have been very good. Star Buyer is not going to stay a maiden long into this campaign whether it be here or Newcastle on Saturday. Leica Storm is a two-year-old on debut has a big pedigree and a big future.

Bet: Apollo Josh to win

RACE 6

Our Baez was scratched from last weekend’s TAB Highway and lobs in what is a much easier race here at her home track as it happens. The Pat Murphy-trained mare ran a huge race at her first start for the former jockey and will be strong late as usual. Easier was well backed when she resumed at Albury two weeks ago and was never, ever going to get beaten in the run, winning by five lengths. Greaves, More To See, Deni Girl and Annual all have claims.

Bet: Our Baez to win

RACE 7

Lawyer’s Delight was $5.50 into $3.80 when he resumed in the 1400m maiden at Wagga on Town Plate. Take out the Plate winner and you’d nearly say that this horse was as impressive as any winner on the card and more than most. Has depth and talent. Masked Maree was never a factor first-up here on May 10 but there is a ‘shock win’ in this mare at big odds one day, maybe Friday is the day. Huxton Creeper sent out some positive and encouraging signs here first-up.

Bet: Lawyer’s Delight to win, Masked Maree to place

RACE 8

Panzarella is one of the more exciting horses racing at Goulburn on Friday by virtue of the fact that she is unbeaten in her two starts so far either side of a spell. The Matthew Smith-trained filly hasn’t won by big margins but she won with a bit of authority here first-up beating a subsequent winner. Amazing Nicci was unable to complete the hat-trick when beaten at Newcastle a couple of weeks ago but her run was a lot better than the ‘9’ beside her name. Expect more this time. Ditto that Tillotson. Tai Lung, Good Deed and Rosie’s Gift are in the mix.

Bet: Panzarella to win

THE INSIDE MAIL FOR INVERELL

RACE 5

Royal Return was a convincing winner at Port Mac on April 10 at his first run for Brett Cavanough. Came to town and finished 15-lengths behind Bethencourt and most of the rest but that was a very, very Heavy 10 by any measure - and he was 1000m to 1400m. Superdeel was a massive drifter first-up ($3.50 to $7.50) but ran a very respectable third in the 1400m Class 3 behind Irresistible Miss who goes around in town on Saturday.

Bet: Royal Return to win

RACE 6

Street Power is another of the Brett Cavanough string heading to Inverell to ensure a big day for the Scone trainer. This Greg Perry-bred gelding probably has the most talent of any horse in the Flying, it is just a matter of the ‘best Street Power’ walking off the float. Invincible Lad has placed once in eight first-up starts but the way he trialled at Gosford the other day, you would say he is primed. Ditto that for the former Ryan/Alexiou gelding and now Coffs Harbour resident, Perigord.

Bet: Street Power to win

RACE 7

Magic Charlee, like a lot of horses, is maybe just short of a run or two, but he actually has a pretty good set of numbers to take out the coveted Beef Week Cup. To begin with, the son of Magic Albert has raced four times second-up for three placings. As well as that, he has won twice at the 1400m. Drawn wide so will have to go back and try and run a fair few of them down. Stablemates Buffet Bluster and Deep Mirror are both fit and in career best form. Eiger was back to his best and then some, winning the Country Cup at Scone.

Bet: Magic Charlee each-way, box trifecta 1,3,4,9,12

RACE 8

Remorseless has 63.5kg but one, he is most likely the superior horse and two, most of his main threats have big weights to contend with themselves. Bottom line is, the son of Written Tycoon’s best form is his first-up form and (new) trainer Scott Singleton must have been pleased with the trial last month. Hasalake has a terrible draw, on paper at least, but did win her maiden here last Friday by almost five so she is flying. Don’t Cry Mama has finished in the trifecta at exactly half of her 24 starts which is no mean feat.

Bet: Remorseless to win
