Prince Of Arran building up for first Caulfield Cup crack but Jamie Kah misses important meeting

Circumstances conspired against Caulfield Cup jockey Jamie Kah to have a sit on popular galloper Prince Of Arran at Werribee before Saturday’s $5 million contest.
Kah was due to head to Werribee to get acquainted with the dual Melbourne Cup placegetter on Monday morning.
But trainer Charlie Fellowes’ representative Aled Beech said quarantine rules played a part in the decision to abandon the plan for Kah to ride Prince Of Arran in a light workout.
“Everything was planned for her to come here this morning to ride him in a slow piece of work, just a canter around,” he said.
“But there was a bit of an issue getting her gear through the quarantine side of things.”
The now eight-year-old will have his first crack at a Caulfield Cup on Saturday but is familiar with the track via his minor placings in the 2018 and 2019 Herbert Power Handicaps.
Prince Of Arran has won more than $2.1 million in his six Australian starts with wins in last year’s Geelong Cup and the Group 3 Hotham Handicap in 2018 to add to his Melbourne Cup placings.
TAB posted Prince Of Arran as a $21 chance to add the Caulfield Cup to his previous Melbourne wins.
Beech said Prince Of Arran had no trouble settling into his third stint in the Werribee Quarantine Centre.
“Obviously, he arrived and he’s settled in really well,” Beech said. “he’s an old pro at this now and I couldn’t be happier with him, everything has gone well.”
Prince Of Arran finished more the seven lengths from the winner at his last run on synthetic ground at Kempton Park. Beech said the gelding needed the run on that occasion.
“I had been riding all his work at home before the September Stakes and Charlie (Fellowes) had made it well aware that he would need the run in the September Stakes,” Beech said.
“I‘m very happy to say that he did need that run and he’s improved from that run and he felt very good on Saturday (morning).
“He‘s a lot sharper and better than I thought he would be and we’re very happy with him.”
