RACING Victoria chief handicapper Greg Carpenter has penalised Moonee Valley Cup winner Precedence winner 1kg for the Melbourne Cup.
This has taken the Bart and James Cummings trained galloper to 29th in the order of entry, which is just outside the field of 24.
Precedence may now have to run in the Lexus at Flemington on Saturday and win to gain start in the Melbourne Cup.
If Precedence can sneak in he will be Bart Cummings' 88th runner and will be running in his fourth Melbourne Cup in a row.
It was confirmed this morning before the second declarations that potential Cup runners It's A Dundeel, Manighar, Royal Descent, Sangster, Puissance de Lune, Waldpark and Quintessential would not be contesting the Cup.
