BEST BET
ZOUTELLUS (Race 3, No. 9 – $2.70)
It took an impressive effort from Grand Pope to beat Zoutellus fresh and the gelding will only be fitter for that run. He’ll go forward for jockey Craig Williams and should be harder to run down this time.
NEXT BEST
ANTHEMIC (Race 4, No. 4 – $4.60)
Did a good job when beaten less than a length at his first run as a gelding on this track last month. He’ll improve on that and should get every chance with jockey Daniel Moor aboard from barrier four.
KEY TO THE MAK (Race 5, No. 3 – $6)
The Luke Oliver-trainer Key To The Mak is a consistent mare who wasn’t far away when resuming at Pakenham on January 28. Her second-up record is strong and she won’t be far away again here.
JEALICE (Race 8, No. 9 - $6.50)
Was a strong winner first-up but the race wasn’t run to suit in Saturday grade at Sandown second-up. She’s fitter for that run and will find this assignment easier.
VALUE BET
KERMALAW (Race 2, No. 16 – $8.50)
Has drawn awkwardly but bookies have still kept him safe on the strength of his excellent jumpouts leading into his first-up run. He was solid in town on debut last prep and looks to have come on in his spell.
THE JOCKEY
DANIEL MOOR
Surprisingly, Moor has gone a week without a winner but he should bounce back with good chances among his book of six rides at Pakenham on Thursday night.
BREASLEY (Race 2, No. 1 – $7), HOUSE KEEPING (Race 3, No. 10 – $61), ANTHEMIC (Race 4, No. 4 – $4.60), EL GUERROUJ (Race 5, No. 7 – $9), BELLA BEE (Race 6, No. 6 – $31), WILD EXPRESS (Race 7, No. 4 – $10).
THE WEEK AHEAD
A Sale day fixture will precede the Friday night meeting at The Valley. Flemington will be the focus of the Melbourne racing scene with Saturday’s Black Caviar Lightning meeting, while Bendigo will hold the day’s provincial card. The famous Buchan Cup picnic meeting will also be on Saturday. Colac and Moe will hold Sunday’s meetings.
