Moonee Valley

THE EARLY OIL: MOONEE VALLEY PREVIEW

THE BANKER: Faatinah (Race 2, No. 4). Only having the fifth start, but has already shown money-munching tendencies. One more chance. Trainer David Hayes confident he will camp on the speed and prove tough to roll over the 1200m.

IN THE FRAME: Big spruik for Peter Moody runner Club Star (Race 6, No. 11). Comes to town after two provincial wins, the last by three lengths on Kyneton Cup day. Up against an average lot in a BM78.

THE TRAINER: Simon Zahra and Mathew Ellerton have aimed to hit their straps this summer after virtually bypassing the spring. They had four winners and four seconds over three days last weekend and head into Saturday’s Moonee Valley meeting with two live hopes, Whistle Baby (Race 3, No. 3) and Trevinder (Race 7, No. 9). Both can win.

THE JOCKEY: Looming as a big day for the father-son Dunn combo. Dylan’s 3kg claim is a massive bonus for the smart Churchill Dancer (Race 7, No. 1), while dad Dwayne has top chances in Faatinah (Race 2, No. 4), Liten Prinsessa (Race 3, No. 5) and Flying Light (Race 5, No. 1).

SHAYNE O’CASS (Sportsman)

Rosehill

THE BANKER: Lucky’s Look (Race 6, No. 12). Is a typical Lonhro mare and is trained by Chris Waller and has the services of Kerrin McEvoy fresh from his 50th Group 1 win the other week. Drawn well, limit weight, trialling like a bomb.

IN THE FRAME: I’m Imposing (Race 8, No. 1). Is the defending champ in the Festival Stakes. He was $26 in to $18 on TAB Fixed Odds almost straight away when markets went up but even the reduced price is not a fair indication of how he’s going, not his chances.

THE RISK: Not much to outright ‘lay’ at Rosehill on Saturday but the two-year-old Geneteau (Race 1, No. 5) looks pretty short in his race considering he got rolled at $1.50 at the provincials by a horse that he is racing again here.

THE TRAINER: Snowdens; Peter and Paul.

THE JOCKEY: J-Mac (aka James McDonald) should have a good day (again).

Doomben

THE BANKER: Sheiswhatsheis (Race 8, No. 10) put the writing on the wall setting up fast time for the winner Trubia last start and is suited out to the mile in a race that doesn’t have a runner of Trubia’s quality.

IN THE FRAME: Riapinka (Race 6, No. 10) battled on well up the straight in a hot fillies race during Melbourne Cup week and looks well placed off the handy draw in this Listed event.

THE RISK: Miss Cover Girl (Race 7, No. 5) is jostling for favouritism in some places for the George Moore Stakes, but meets Architect poorly at the weights for being beaten soundly by him in October and also comes up with the worst draw.

THE JOCKEY: Damian Browne has been turning water into wine with limited opportunities in Brisbane this season, striking at better than 40 per cent. Off the back of Buffering’s Group 1 win last week he has chances on Rock The Pac (Race 2, No. 3), Le Chef (Race 3, No. 1), Remagen Bridge (Race 4, No. 4) and Banda Spice (Race 6, No. 6) on Saturday.

THE TRAINER: Rob Heathcote may have been enjoying Group 1 success in Melbourne and Perth, but it’s been a battle on the home front, having just one Saturday Brisbane winner in the past two months. He has some excellent chances on paper on Saturday, but admits he’s “down on confidence” with the way the team is going. He rates Saluter (Race 5, No. 1) his best chance of breaking the drought, while Treatmelikealady (Race 4, No. 6) and Privlaka (Race 3, No. 5) are in winnable races if they can perform fresh.
