HOT TIPS: WEEKEND BEST BETS

THE EARLY OIL: BALLARAT CUP DAY

MOONEE VALLEY (Friday night)

DARYL TIMMS (Herald Sun). Form: 19540

FAB FEVOLA

Race 6, No. 1

Veteran who returned to form with a win last start. Will look the winner at some stage.

TAB Fixed Odds: $11

BALLARAT (Saturday)

ROD NICHOLSON (Herald Sun). Form: 64854

APOLOBOOM

Race 4, No. 3

Solid effort at Flemington last start and has a touch of class. Ready for this.

TAB Fixed Odds: $13

MICHAEL MANLEY (Herald Sun). Form: 91118

PROFIT SHARE

Race 9, No. 10

Can find trouble and does a few things wrong but possesses above average ability. Drawn out but might prove too good.

TAB Fixed Odds: $4.20

DANNY RUSSELL (Herald Sun). Form: 00421

AKZAR

Race 8, No. 5

Sticking with the in-form team of Weir and Payne to win their home Cup.

TAB Fixed Odds: $9

ROSEHILL

NIC ASHMAN (Daily Telegraph). Form: 09232

SONG AND LAUGHTER

Race 5, No. 6

Handy mare that has struck form. Will roll towards the front and that should be the place to be.

TAB Fixed Odds: $5

STEPHEN ZAMMIT (Daily Telegraph). Form: 83029

YANKEE ROSE

Race 2, No. 9

This filly was on debut for David Vandyke and flashed along the fence to score over this course and distance on October 31. Gets the same conditions here and should get a good run from gate six. No reason why she can’t win again.

TAB Fixed Odds: $4.80

JOHN DAVIS (Daily Telegraph). Form: x0824

UNEQUIVOCAL

Race 7, No. 4

Is down a long way in class after consecutive runs in The Nivison and Maybe Mahal, the latter a Group 3 race, when close up on both occasions. Looks the testing material.

TAB Fixed Odds: $8.50

SHAYNE O’CASS (The Sportsman). Form: 08522

THERMOGENIC

Race 9, No. 12

Is a horse of some talent. He is a half-brother to Nechita who has been tried over a variety of distances and while I am not sure what Gerald Ryan has planned for him, I reckon the Villiers might be his go. I have loved his trials. Avdulla/good gate, I just hope the horse gets away from the start well and doesn’t miss it and get too far back. But even if he did, I know he has a sufficiently big finish to reel these in and win at odds.

TAB Fixed Odds: $14

DARREN PRENDERGAST (Superracing). Form: 40024

LORD LEOFRIC

Race 8, No. 1

Worked through the grades in good style last preparation. Has won two from three first-up and Brodie Loy’s 2kg claim will put him right in finish.

TAB Fixed Odds: $5.50

ASCOT

SIMON MOY (Superracing). Form: 32721

BUFFERING

Race 7, No. 1

Doesn’t know he’s getting on in the years yet in terrific form. Did all the work early in Darley Classic yet still hung on for a brave fourth against quality opposition. Looks well in here to add another Winterbottom to his amazing CV.

TAB Fixed Odds: $3.70

CHRIS VERNUCCIO (Superracing). Form: 01121

MAGNIFISIO

Race 7, No. 13

Aiming for back-to-back wins in the Winterbottom Stakes and has a similar build up before last year’s triumph. She would have been tighter in the market had she not drawn the widest alley.

TAB Fixed Odds: $8.50

NICK QUINN (TAB). Form: 65945

HAZZABEEL

Race 8, No. 11

Star sprinter who got back into the winner’s list with a dominant win last start. Star hoop Damian Lane takes the ride and a good each-way chance at double figure odds.

TAB Fixed Odds: $11

Buffering, right, won the Winterbottom Stakes in 2013. Picture: Graeme Collopy

DOOMBEN

NATHAN EXELBY (The Courier-Mail). Form: 15800

SOLDI DOMANI

Race 3, No. 11

Scratched last week due to the wet track and now takes on a higher grade of race, but one in which many of his rivals have reached their mark or are out of form. Can sit off them and come with a rush late.

TAB Fixed Odds: $8

BRAD DAVIDSON (Gold Coast Bulletin). Form: 96334

TUKIYO

Race 6, No. 1

Stunned at the odds on offer for Tukiyo and, yes, she needs luck from the wide gate but she should be half that price. She should be giving a horse like Golden Falls 8kg under handicap conditions but meets that horse at level weights. She improves sharply second up and her recent trial at Toowoomba was very good. Back her each-way.

TAB Fixed Odds: $13

MORPHETTVILLE

LINCOLN MOORE (The Advertiser). Form: 581x6

HOT DEMAND

Race 1, No. 7

Fitter for two runs back from a break. Pulled ground off Nutherbottlegonski first-up from a break before having support when runner-up at Gawler. Up in class but has talent and looks nice each-way value.

TAB Fixed Odds: $6.50
