BURLESQUE artist Dita Von Teese joined the A-list judging panel at Myer Fashions on the Field yesterday as Flemington's finest revelled in the flamboyancy of the Melbourne Cup.
The international pin-up girl, famous for her own style and lingerie designs, said she was impressed with the entrants in the designer award category.
"It's amazing. I love all the vibrant colour," she said.
Model-of-the-moment and VRC style ambassador Coco Rocha also cast her eye over the contestants and said she was captivated by the calibre of racing ensembles.
"I had been warned it would be full of fashion and colour but I thought I should take it with a grain because maybe Australians are biased; but this is actually amazing," she said.
Oscar Calvo took top honours in the designer award with a dramatic interpretation of the seasons laser-cut and neoprene trends.
Earlier in the day, Myer Fashions on the Field was flooded with fashionistas keen to embrace the exuberance of Cup Day.
From feathered to floral, lacy to racy, women overwhelmingly donned bold styles for the most colourful day on the carnival's calendar.
Vivid colours in bold red, blue and citrus hues were favoured by the fillies as were geometric prints, structured peplums, tailored pencil skirts and sequins.
Pillbox-style hats, floral blooms and structured fascinators all dominated in the millinery department.
While competitors came from as far as Shanghai and New Zealand, it was an interstate raider who took the top prize.
Chloe Moo, 19, of Darwin charmed the judges clad in a dress screen-printed with original indigenous artwork and fanned feather headpiece.
Ms Moo now edges closer to winning a slice of Australia's richest fashion prize, returning tomorrow to compete for a place in the National Final.
