Melbourne Cup winning jockey Michelle Payne could be set to appear on Ellen

MELBOURNE Cup winning jockey Michelle Payne’s dream run continues, with another race victory and a possible upcoming appearance on the Ellen show.

Racing: Michelle Payne has become the first ever female jockey to win the Melbourne Cup, piloting home rank outsider Prince of Penzance in a major boilover.

MELBOURNE CUP-winning jockey Michelle Payne’s fame has gone global after announcing she could be appearing on The Ellen DeGeneres Show.

Payne, who is the first female jockey to win the race that stops a nation, is expected to appear on the US talk show in the coming weeks.

“I’m just hoping it will happen because I love Ellen,” she said at a marquee event at Flemington on Saturday after winning race four on horse Palentino.

“It would be awesome.”

Payne, who is the first female jockey to win the race that stops a nation, is expected to appear on the US talk show in the coming weeks.

Fellow Victorian Porta de Rossi, who is married to show host Ellen DeGeneres, is believed to have suggested the appearance after an interview with Today host Karl Stefanovic.

“She is my new hero,” de Rossi said. “I can’t believe how much courage these people have, but as a woman and her work with the disabled, she’s just so inspirational.”

Stefanovic quipped: “I can think of a TV show that she might want to appear on in the United States.” Wilkins then yelled out: “Put her on Ellen!”

De Rossi laughed and said: “I know people at that show, I can make that happen.”

Payne says the phone hasn’t been ringing with more offers of rides but she did say she is limiting herself in the lead-up to the Sandown Guineas meeting next Saturday.

“It doesn’t get much better than this,” Payne said.

“I’m floating on a cloud and it’s a nice feeling.”

“I’m taking the early part of next week off just to have a rest and to celebrate on the weekend and take it all in,” she said.

“It’s a dream come true so it would be nice to reflect on it.”

Payne is looking forward to her hometown Ballarat Cup meeting on November 21 and said victory in that race would be nearly as big as her victory in last Tuesday’s Cup.

She only had two rides on Saturday’s program steering Lady Cumquat into 12th place after winning aboard Palentino which she said was a satisfying result after her big week.

“I didn’t want to get too nervous but I knew Darren has a high opinion of this horse,” Payne said of Palentino.

“I was so glad to keep the ride on him and he’s so similar to Prince Of Penzance.

“I’ve been trying to get him into becoming a racehorse and he won his first start at Stawell too.

“The fairytale is continuing and I’m just so lucky.”
