IT has taken a lifetime for actor, philanthropist and artist Jane Seymour to make it Australia and she plans to see as much of the country as she can during her short stay Down Under.

Seymour, 66, who is speaking at Up Close and Personal with Jane Seymour at The Plenary this afternoon, arrived in Melbourne on Friday with her first stop at the Heide Museum of Modern Art in Bulleen.

She will attend the Melbourne Cup on Tuesday as a guest of Sensis before heading to Uluru, Cairns, Hamilton Island and Sydney.

“I am very much looking forward to it (the Cup),” she said.

“I have been to Royal Ascot and to the Kentucky Derby. I am not an aficionado but I very much enjoy it (horse racing).

“Everyone seems to be trying to give me tips. I tend to put my money on something no-one else wants.”

Seymour’s breakthrough role came as Solitaire in the 1973 James Bond film Live and Let Die opposite Roger Moore.

“Roger was lovely and I was fortunate enough to have some quality time with him a few months before he passed (in May 2017),” she said.

“I was only 20-years-old when I did that and it was by far the most exciting and biggest thing I had done.

“The fact that anyone still recognises me as a Bond girl is quite nice but the other thing that is nice that I did manage to do some things after that.”

Seymour said she was delighted to finally be in Australia.

“I have no idea, no idea (why she had not travelled to Australia before),” she said.

“It does not make any sense at all because the rest of my family have all been to Australia quite regularly and my friend Olivia Newton John has invited me out here countless times. I spoke to her two days ago when I was in LA and I am going to her hospital (Olivia Newton-John Cancer Wellness & Research Centre) on Friday.

“She has told me about it for years and I am very excited about that.”
