Star jockey Hugh Bowman is set to miss the Cox Plate due to suspension with highly-rated import Sir Dragonet to need a new rider.
Bowman, who chose to ride in Melbourne over the spring carnival, was suspended for 10 meetings for causing interference in the Group 1 Caulfield Guineas.
Bowman, who famously won four Cox Plates in a row on Winx, had decided to start his suspension after he partners Aidan O’Brien galloper Anthony Van Dyck in next Saturday’s Caulfield Cup.
Anthony Van Dyck is the $5 favourite for the Caulfield Cup.
It means Cox Plate fancy Sir Dragonet, who will race for Ciaron Maher and Dave Eustace this spring, will need a new rider.
Sir Dragonet has performed well in Europe this year, most recently finishing second in a 2000m Group 1 behind star mare Magical.
Sir Dragonet is rated a $9 chance in the Cox Plate, on the fourth line of betting with TAB.
