Caulfield Cup or Cox Plate for Kavanagh's Super Cool

TRAINER Mark Kavanagh will decide overnight whether exciting four-year-old Super Cool tackles the Caulfield Cup in 11 days time or is saved for a shot at the Cox Plate a week later.

Super Cool was one of 41 third acceptors taken today for the $2.5m BMW Caulfield Cup (2400m) on October 19.

He was also among the latest 36 acceptors for the Group 1 $3m Cox Plate at Moonee Valley (2040m) on October 26 as Kavanagh looks to finalise the gelding's Melbourne Cup preparation.

Super Cool had a chequered run and finished ninth in Saturday's Group 1 Turnbull Stakes (2000m) at Flemington, almost four lengths behind winner Happy Trails.

A post-race veterinary exam found nothing amiss with the son of Fastnet Rock, who eased to $51 in TAB Melbourne Cup betting.

He is considered a $31 Cox Plate chance behind the likes of Atlantic Jewel ($2.90), It's A Dundeel ($4.20) and Fiorente ($5) but is rated a $12 Caulfield Cup hope behind the Chris Waller-trained favourite Hawkspur ($4.50).

Fiorente was officially removed from Caulfield Cup acceptors and will target the Cox Plate as his final lead-up run for the Melbourne Cup, where he's out to improve on last year's second placing.
