DARREN Weir’s star Black Heart Bart will bypass Sandown Hillside on Saturday as he will instead be heading to Perth to tackle Saturday week’s $1 million Railway Stakes (1600m) at Ascot.
Weir had Black Heart Bart entered for two races at Sandown Hillside but when he found out he had been given 59kg in Perth, that swayed him to head interstate with him.
“I had the race in mind for sometime and when he got 59kg that confirmed he’s going as that’s what I hoped to get. He’ll go over with Ulmann who’ll also run in the Railway Stakes,” Weir said.
REVIEW: SPRING CARNIVAL HIGHLIGHTS AND LOWLIGHTS
It will be the former Perth galloper’s first start in his home state since he joined Weir’s stables.
Black Heart Bart hasn’t started since he finished fifth in the Underwood Stakes at Caulfield on October 1.
Weir will back-up Melbourne Cup fourth placegetter Big Duke in the Zipping Classic (2400m) on Saturday at Sandown Hillside in the hope of winning the race for the first time.
“He ran really well. He couldn’t have gone any better and he’s come through the race really well,” Weir said.
He will also run Gallic Chieftain in the Sandown Cup (3200m).
Gallic Chieftain finished fifth in the Queen Elizabeth Stakes but Weir said he would have finished closer with a better ride.
Weir will have a strong representation at Sandown Hillside as Raw Impulse will run in the Eclipse Stakes, Burning Front in the Kevin Heffernan Stakes and Lucky Hussler in the Sandown Stakes.
Two of his unlucky Flemington runners Snitzepeg and Tamasa will both run in the Sandown Guineas (1600m).
