Our experts give you an early shot at finding a winner around the nation in the major races this weekend.

Last week … Five winners. Glenn McFarlane, Simon Moy and Nick Quinn saved their best for last with Defibrillate ($2) and it paid off. Gilbert Gardiner was on the money with Aussie Nugget ($3) and Brad Waters was spot on with Long Arm ($4). Darren Prendergast returned from a break with an impressive winner Great House ($2.80), while Ray Thomas’s value bet Zethus ($6.50) delivered for punters.

Saturday’s races: CAULFIELD (9 races, start 12.40pm), MORPHETTVILLE (9 races, 12.51pm), ROYAL RANDWICK (9 races, 1pm), EAGLE FARM (9 races, 1.43pm).

CAULFIELD

GILBERT GARDINER (Herald Sun) Form: 12131

BIRD OF DUBAI (Race 2, No. 6 — $9.50)

Ready for take-off. Both runs have shown plenty of merit. Looks a great each-way value.

Value bet: PROPHETS THUMB (Race 9, No. 9 — $10)

BRAD WATERS (Racenet) Form: 3x231

VIRIDINE (Race 9, No. 1 — $5)

Struggled around The Valley in the Australia Stakes but much better suited back at Caulfield in the Rubiton Stakes.

Value bet: HIGHLY DISCREET (Race 5, No. 7 — $23)

GLENN McFARLANE (Herald Sun) Form: 642x1

REGARDSMAREE (Race 1, No. 7 — $2.60)

Talented horse who toyed with rivals last start and could do the same in slightly tougher class here.

Value bet: PROBABEEL (Race 7, No. 1 — $4.60)

CHRIS VERNUCCIO (NewsRacing). Form: 13362

SNAPDANCER (Race 7, No. 6 — $3.30)

It was disappointing she didn’t win on Magic Millions Day but on review it was a mighty effort considering where she was in the run and how the track played. She’s flying this prep.

Value bet: JET PROPULSION (Race 4, No. 4 — $5.50)

SIMON MOY (NewsRacing). Form: 58131

SNAPDANCER (Race 7, No. 6 — $3.30)

Even in defeat on Gold Coast was super impressive late. Won three times at distance and can atone here.

Value bet: ANAMOE (Race 3, No. 2 — $5)

ROYAL RANDWICK

RAY THOMAS (Daily Telegraph) Form: 9272s

APRIL RAIN (Race 4, No. 8 — $2)

Very promising mare who should make the transition from midweek to Saturday grade look routine. She has won both her starts at Canterbury this campaign with ease. She will appreciate the spacious Randwick track and just needs to avoid bad luck in running to win again.

Value bet: CONGLOMERATE (Race 1, No. 2 — $8)

MATT JONES (Daily Telegraph) Form: 21643

APRIL RAIN (Race 4, No. 8 — $2)

This horse looks like it’s going places and the last-start win at Canterbury oozed class as she did it with a leg in the air.

Value bet: THE BOPPER (Race 7, No. 3 — $6)

DARREN PRENDERGAST (NewsRacing) Form: 213x1

NORTH PACIFIC (Race 6, No. 3 — $2.30)

Golden Rose runner-up yet to miss a place in five starts. Has a good turn of foot and tuned up for return with trial win at Rosehill.

Value bet: ROCKETING BY (Race 7, No. 7 — $21)

NICK QUINN (TAB). Form: 51421

PROFITEER (Race 5, No. 1 — $1.75)

Value bet: DON’TDREAMIT’SOVER (Morphettville, Race 7, No. 7 — $4.80)

LATEST BETTING: TAB FIXED ODDS

EAGLE FARM

NATHAN EXELBY (Courier-Mail). Form: 63115

LEAGLESE (Race 1, No. 10 — $6.50)

Had one run, when clearly wanting more ground, and then turned out. Trucked home strongly in a recent Gold Coast trial and 1200m fresh looks a good starting point. Strikes a race where the other raced division are average and then a number of first starters, which have trialled okay, without looking like stars. Is in a stable going pretty well at the moment, particularly when this jock is engaged. Looks a good gamble on both totes.

Value bet: BONAPARTE (Race 5, No. 11 — $13)

JETT HATTON (Racenet). Form: 5x115

LIGULATE (Race 4, No. 1 — $2.50)

He’s been a walking ATM for connections and expecting Ligulate to chalk up another victory on Saturday. Will be suited by the more spacious Eagle Farm track and be flashing home late again.

Value bet: THE FACE (Randwick, Race 6, No. 6 — $7.50)
