Banned jockey Nash Rawiller hoping to kickstart his career in Sydney

Champion jockey Nash Rawiller has made application to resume trackwork riding in Sydney.

Exhilarates dominates in Gold Coast

CHAMPION jockey Nash Rawiller has made application to resume trackwork riding in Sydney.

Rawiller is currently a disqualified person after being found guilty by the Hong Kong Jockey Club of receiving gifts or money in exchange for tips.

The penalty means Rawiller can’t walk onto a racetrack or stabling facility anywhere in the world until his disqualification ends in July.

However, an investigation by Hong Kong stewards found no evidence that Rawiller had ridden any horse with the intention other than to obtain the best possible placing and that the jockey only tipped horses ridden by him.

Rawiller is hoping Racing NSW’s stewards and licensing committee will consider his application to return to trackwork so he can prepare for a possible comeback to race riding later this year.

The 44-year-old jockey has always struggled with his weight and the extended period he is spending out of the saddle will make it even harder for him to return to full fitness.

Another gong for Winx

WINX, the greatest graduate of the Magic Millions Yearling Sales, will be crowned the world’s most popular racehorse at an awards ceremony at America’s famous Santa Anita racetrack in Southern California on Sunday.

Owners Debbie Kepitis and Peter Tighe will make the trip to accept the Secretariat Vox Populi award for 2018 which recognises the racehorse “whose popularity and racing excellence best resounded with the general public and gained recognition for thoroughbred racing.”

Richard Treweeke’s Winx’s other part-owner, isn’t making the trip to America but will be represented by members of his family.

Winx was the top choice of a global online poll of racing fans from 60 countries. The other nominations were unbeaten US triple crown winner Justify, European super mare Enable, America’s champion older horse Accelerate and three-year-old filly Monomoy Girl.

Winx is the first Australian-trained horse to win the Secretariat Vox Populi award and becomes only the second mare to be afforded the honour. US champion mare Zenyatta, who is by Winx’s sire Street Cry, was the inaugural 2010 winner.
