ATT: Trainer Terry Evans amazed after property saved in NSW bushfires
Trainer Terry Evans was thankful for the support of family, friends and the Rural Fire Service after his house and horses were saved from the raging fires on the NSW mid-north coast.

Trainer Terry Evans saved his horses and house at Rainbow Flat, near Tuncurry, from the devastating fires that ravaged the mid-north coast of NSW.
He spent a number of nights sleeping in his stables to protect his horses from the blaze.
Evans posted on Facebook: “I stayed at home as long as I could but in the end was far too dangerous. Julie (wife) and puppies got out and we are with friends at the Diamond Beach resort. Julie and I are overwhelmed with your support. All horses at the racecourse are fine.”

We are still waiting to find an example of an animal activist putting in more time and effort to care for horses than staff at a racing stable.
Scone trainer Jeremy Gask also shared a picture. “Can’t win a race at the moment but you can’t say they aren’t loved,“ Gask said.
Diva had raiders covered
Vow And Declare’s Melbourne Cup win was a rare one for Australia’s horses and it’s likely the internationals will continue their domination next year. But they wouldn’t have if Makybe Diva was still racing, according to her jockey Glen Boss.
“She beat the best in the world. Vinnie Roe was rated the world’s best two miler, especially on wet ground, and she beat him a length and quarter,” Boss said.
“Dermot Weld told me after the race that he couldn’t get his horse any better and he was ridden well. He was presented to win and he said Vinnie Roe would have won that race 10 out of 10 times but he couldn’t beat her.”
Sad state of affairs
We were down at Flemington for Derby Day last Saturday and when the Golden Eagle was on at Rosehill one Melbourne journalist turned their back on the TV and said they refused to watch the race. How sad can you be?
Waller’s Cup boost
Chris Waller will have an even stronger hand in the Melbourne Cup next year after he was given last week’s unlucky third-place getter Il Paradiso to prepare for the 2020 race. And why wouldn’t an owner send a horse to Waller? He got Nature Strip to win a 1200m Group 1 race yesterday when many thought it would be impossible.
Tough luck
If you had a tough day on the punt on Saturday, this punter’s hardluck story would make you feel better. They had a $60,000 Bundle Bet at $1.08 on either Watakemanhattan (9th), Lucky For All (8th), Grinzinger Star (5th) or Starcaster (4th) to win the second at Flemington. And $19 chance Savvy Oak won. One punter has backed Oaks winner Miami Bound to win the Caulfield Cup next year. They out $5000 each-way at $26/$7.25 on her.
Hoop quizzed
Chief steward Marc Van Gestel felt Keegan Latham (on Artarmon) could have done more to prevent Humbolt Current winning the 2400m race at Rosehill Gardens. Van Gestel watched on as Latham’s horse rolled out to give his rival an easy path in the straight.
“You’ve got a horse back on your inside that’s well supported,” Van Gestel said. “Were you able to ride your mount in a more competitive manner?” Latham explained that his horse was laying in so he switched the whip to his right hand then he rolled out.
Valid excuse
Dame Giselle was a $13 Golden Slipper favourite after her big Golden Gift win, which is fair enough because it was impressive and it guaranteed her a run in the race next autumn. It also ensured runner-up See You Soon got in and she’s double the odds at $26. She got held up badly in Saturday’s race for jockey Jean Van Overmeire. “I think almost would’ve won after we got held up badly,” he said.
All Hart
Hartnell’s last career run in the Mackinnon summarised why the Australian racing public loved him. He may have ran third, behind Magic Wand, but he was gritty all the way to the line at start 58. He earned just shy of $7.5 million in career that yielded four Group 1s. Of course, it would’ve been more had Winx not been around.
HORSES TO FOLLOW: Cellsabeel (enormous on debut), See You Soon (may be overs next start) Two Wrongs Dont (should’ve won)
ONES TO SACK: Duchess Of Lennox (too many chances) Angel Of Heaven (surely the punters have now learnt)
RIDE OF THE DAY: Jason Collett on Ready For Danger (typical clam Collett ride)
QUOTE OF THE DAY: “She looks like a pelican waiting for a pilchard,” said race caller Darren Flindell when describing Maid Of Ore’s racing manners in the Country Classic.
