SuperCoach NBL mail for Round 7: All the injury and team news from across the NBL

The Sydney Kings’ season has gone from bad to worse, with a star import set for a serious stint on the sidelines after he had “taken a turn” in his recovery from a back injury.

Sydney master coach Brian Goorjian fears injured star guard Jaylen Adams “won’t have an impact on our group for a while”.

As the Kings slumped to a second straight loss on Sunday without their former MVP running the show, Goorjian admitted Adams’ bad back had “taken a turn” this weekend and he was expecting a “heavy process” to get him on the floor and contributing.

“It’s lingering into a very long period of time and this thing’s very physical … I don’t think he’s going to have an impact on our group for a while,” Goorjian said, following the 89-93 loss.

Goorjian, whose team entered the season as the red hot favourite to win the title, slumped to 5-4 on the season and fifth place.

He said the club would give Adams more time to recover before making a decision on whether an injury replacement was needed to help the “hurting” Kings stay competitive.

“We’ve just got to give it a little bit more time and make a decision there, I’m hoping that we’re still in this thing when it matters and that Jaylen’s a part of it,” he said.

It doesn’t get any easier for the Kings, with a trip to Melbourne this week to open Round 7 on Thursday night against a Melbourne United team that demolished undermanned Cairns on Sunday – and has arguably the best guard group in the league, with the return of Shea Ili from injury likely.

Meanwhile, Taipans coach Adam Forde says the injury outlook for Tanner Groves is “not good”, saying he has had setbacks with his initial calf injury.
