Rugby Sevens star Maddi Levi has revealed she hopes to represent the Wallaroos at the 2029 Women's Rugby World Cup and has a dream of one day playing in the NRLW.

Levi has been a sensation in the sevens format with more than 200 tries for Australia but the 2024 Olympian hopes to make her mark in the 15-a-side format post the 2028 Olympics.

The reigning World Rugby Sevens Player of the Year had originally planned to play for the Queensland Reds this season before a hand injury prevented her from joining the side.

“I’ve stepped away as I didn’t want to try and learn the game, I thought it was selfish of me to learn the game while they’re pursuing a world cup,” Levi said.

“I’m 23, so the home world cup in 2029 in something that is still on my horizon.

“So I had to just look at the bigger picture and what’s coming up, so LA Olympics into a home world cup in ‘29 will be awesome.”

Her dreams are not just limited to rugby union, with the former Gold Coast Sun also eager to make her mark in NRLW and also did not rule out a potential return to AFLW.

“I don’t want to close off any doors, I guess the beauty of playing women’s sport is you can play as much sport,” she said.

“I want to play NRL down the track and obviously come back to AFL and give (rugby) 15s a go so I think that’s the exciting thing about these codes being so similar as well as you can transition between the two.”

Levi said she believed she would not have to change her rapid style in either code but was hopeful to get rugby 15s game-time under her belt before 2029.

“Obviously there’s a lot less space on the 15s field so it’s just trying to play a bit of 15s and just find my feet and work out how I can play and how I can find space myself,” she said.

“You’re still catching the ball, you’re still running, you’re still tackling, so pretty similar base format but just tyring to find the space and how I can best utilise my skillset.”
