Southern Districts have snared the prized signature of former Waratahs’ assistant coach Todd Louden for 2020.
Highly sought-after, Louden was sounded out about the Waratahs head coach job and approached by several Shute Shield sides before opting to take over as head coach at Southern Districts.
Louden was working as a consultant with the Melbourne Rebels but in his new role with Southern Districts, he will oversee the creation of a new program covering all the teams to seniors to colts and women’s sevens.

"We see a real need to further professionalise our approach to rugby at all levels in our great club. Todd will lead this shift toward a club wide environment that develops and enhances the skills of our coaches and players,” Southern Districts President Ken McKay said.
“This will include a significant focus on improving the Colts program for 2020 with this renewed program developing our younger players and providing an aspirational pathway for our local juniors. It’s a very exciting time.”
A former Australian Schoolboys representative player, Louden served as attack coach for the South African Bulls team that won the Super Rugby title in 2007 before helping the Waratahs the following season and also spent three years coaching in Japan.
