Virus crisis fails to derail golden girl Genevieve LaCaze who eyes double at Tokyo Olmypic Games
Australian athletic golden girl Genevieve LaCaze has not had her Tokyo Olympic Games plans derailed by the coronavirus crisis. LaCaze has hopes of adding the 10,000m to her workload after already qualifying for the 3000m steeplechase.

Australian athletic golden girl Genevieve LaCaze has not lost stride or had her Tokyo Olympic Games plans derailed despite of the coronavirus crisis.
LaCaze, the Australian athletics team co-captain, was aiming to add the 10,000m to her Olympic Games workload after already qualifying for her third Olympic Games as a 3000m steeplechase competitor.
LaCaze’s pet discipline remains the 3000m steeplechase where she has been a regular world top 10 finisher.
But she also has eyes for the 10,000m, an event where she is the current Australian champion.
“I am aiming to qualify in both the 3000m steeplechase and the 10,000m,’’ the John Paul College alumni said.
LaCaze already has an automatic qualifying time in the steeple locked away for the Games, to now be staged in July 2021.
But she has ambitions for the 10,000m as well.
“My training for the steeple is the most important part of my Olympic prep as it is my main event.
“However, the training is very similar for the 10,000m,’’ said LaCaze, the Australian athletic co-captain.
She said the delay in the Olympic Games by 12 months had not altered her initial plans to try and qualify for the two events.
LaCaze said during the lockdown she has been able “to continue our training solo and with my husband (fellow athlete Ryan Gregson)’’.
