Two-time Olympic hurdler Simon Hollingsworth is the new Athletics Australia chief executive.

The long-time government bureaucrat is set to be announced on Thursday in the prime role of leading Australia’s track and field body into an exciting era ahead of the Brisbane Olympic Games.

Hollingsworth, 52, competed in the 400m hurdles at two Olympics – 1992 in Barcelona and 1996 in Atlanta – as well as the 1995 world championships in Sweden.

He is best known for his role as CEO of the Australian Sports Commission between 2012 and 2016.

An Oxford Rhodes Scholar, Hollingsworth is currently the CEO of the Melbourne Magistrates’ Court.

It is the first major appointment under the presidency of Jane Flemming, a former teammate of Hollingsworth’s.

Current AA boss Peter Bromley announced in February that he was stepping down after the Paris Olympics.

Bromley had been in the job for three years after initially taking on the role in an interim capacity following the Tokyo Olympics.
