Paralympics 2024: James Turner wins 400m gold to lead Australian charge on day six in Paris

There was plenty to talk about on day six of the Paralympic Games.

Here’s what you might have missed.

ANOTHER SHOT AT TABLE TENNIS GOLD

Qian Yang’s remarkable Games has continued after qualifying for the Women’s WS10 Singles Standing gold medal game.

Yang overcame Brazilian Bruna Alexandre in a captivating match 3-2.

And the 28-year-old believes she has the ability to play at the Olympic Games as fellow Aussie Melissa Tapper did last month.

“I would like to, if I have the chance. I feel I can do it,” she said.

It follows her gold medal success in the doubles alongside Li Na Lei.

SAFFY STRIKES FOR HIS FIRST MEDAL

Swimmer Alex Saffy has the first Paralympic Games medal of his career after finishing third in the men’s 100m butterfly SB9.

Saffy narrowly beat fellow Australian Col Pearse in the race for the podium on a night where Rachael Watson also claimed a bronze.

TURNER BACKS THROUGH FOR ANOTHER GOLD

James Turner claimed his third straight gold medal at the Paralympics with a dominant run in the men’s T36 400m final on Monday afternoon in Paris.

He successfully defended his title from Tokyo in a race where he broke the world record.

POSITIVE START AT THE EQUESTRIAN

Australia’s equestrian riders have had to be patient, not starting their respective campaigns until day six, but it was well worth it.

Bridget Murphy was first up, producing an impressive ride with a score of 66.724.

Stella Barton then followed and was equally as strong.

Both riders have now qualified for the individual freestyle later in the week.

MEDAL HUNT OVER FOR THE ROLLERS

Australia’s wheelchair basketball team is out of the medal hunt after going down to Great Britain by 20 points in the quarter-final.

A 28-13 final term ultimately proved to be a key difference between the two sides with the Aussies now heading for the classification rounds.
