Opals, Maddison Keeney, Taliqua Clancy and Mariafe Artacho del Solar headline Australians in action on day 14 of Paris Olympic Games

As the Paris Olympic Games nears completion, there are still plenty of Aussie athletes in action, many vying for medals. See who will feature on Day 14.

There were some big Aussie results on Thursday with silver and bronze galore, while the Stingers brought the house down with their famous win.

Can the Opals join them in playing for a gold medal with another match-up against the USA? While breaking finally makes its long-awaited debut at the Games.

Here’s some of the Aussie action to expect for day 14 of the Paris Olympics.

OPALS - 1.30 AM AEST

The Opals were dominant in their quarterfinal victory over Serbia and have ensured they will play for at least a bronze medal in Paris. But led by Jade Melbourne and Alanna Smith, they have found some form and will look to make the gold medal match.

RACHAEL GUNN - 12.13AM AEST

The debut of breaking at the Olympics will arrive on Friday as the women’s competition gets underway. 16 of the best B-Girls from around the world will be put to the test, with Australia’s hopes spearheaded by Macquarie University lecturer, Rachael Gunn.

MARIAFE ARTACHO DEL SOLAR/TALIQUA CLANCY - 5.00AM AEST

Taliqua Clancy and Mariafe Artacho del Solar will be playing for another Olympic medal on Friday night on what should be a scintillating night of beach volleyball. While it might only be for bronze, it will add to their Olympic collection and be the perfect way to cap off a wonderful tournament from the Aussie pair.

CASSIEL ROUSSEAU AND JAXON BOWSHIRE - 6.00PM AEST

Cassiel Rousseau is a genuine gold medal contender for Australia after claiming world championship gold in the event in 2023. It backed up his 2022 Commonwealth Games gold and he would love to add an Olympic medal to his tally. He will be joined in the men’s 10m platform prelims by Jaxon Bowshire, the teenager beginning to prove himself on the big stage.

MADDISON KEENEY - 11.00PM AEST

Keeney impressed in the semi-finals for the women’s 3m springboard, finishing as the second-best qualifier behind China’s Chen Yiwen. If she can produce a similar performance, a spot on the podium is there for the taking.

KYLE LEE AND NIC SLOMAN - 3.30PM AEST

Two Aussies will be competing in the open water swim, headlined by Kyle Lee who helped lead Australia to the World Champs mixed relay gold medal earlier this year. It will be a gruelling course on the Seine, but the Aussies are well prepared.

TOM GREEN/JEAN VAN DER WESTHUYZEN - 6.50PM AEST

Tom Green and Jean van der Westhuyzen will be looking to make it back-to-back Olympic gold medals at Paris in the canoe sprint. It might be a shorter format than Tokyo, but the pair have been in great recent form on the world circuit and are primed for the podium again.

PEYTON CRAIG - 7.50PM AEST

Craig was the surprise packet of the 800m heats, booking his place straight through to the semi-finals with a superb run. He’s been regularly setting new PBs in 2024, can he add another one on his way to an Olympic final?

KYLE BRUCE - 11.00PM AEST

The Aussie weightlifter began his career almost a decade ago, working at a pizza restaurant to pay for the travel to the weightlifting club. But he has now opened his own gym and won Commonwealth Games silver in 2022. Can he add to his tally in Paris?

JACQUELINE NICHELE - 3.30AM AEST

Nichele only started weightlifting in 2019 and competed internationally for the first time in 2023, but has put together an impressive resume ever since. She qualified for Paris by being the top-ranked weightlifter in her 71kg category for Oceania.

LEON SEJRANOVIC - 7.48PM AEST

Sejranovic is one of the top taekwondo athletes in the world ahead of his Olympics debut. His bronze medal at the 2023 World Championships was the first medal by an Australian man in more than 25 years. He has previously been ranked as high as sixth in the world.

LAUREN RYAN - 4.57AM AEST

The 26-year-old will finally make her Olympic debut in Paris after spending years running around the world. Based out of Baltimore, the long-distance runner broke the Australian record for the 10,000m which had previously stood for 21 years.

CONNOR MURPHY - 4.13AM AEST

Just like his dad, Connor Murphy has progressed to an Olympic triple jump final after producing a 16.80 to qualify. Incidentally, it was the exact same distance his dad Andrew produced when he was the last Aussie to make it to a triple jump final.
