Australian swimmers had COVID during Olympic Games

Australia’s best swimmers have made a splash in the pool and are now turning their attention to holiday time.

After most have been away from family and friends for the past eight weeks, many have plans to travel from Paris around Europe.

For swim star Shayna Jack who booked a romantic holiday to Greece, it hasn’t all gone to plan post Olympics — she didn’t expect it to get gatecrashed by the boss.

“My partner and I actually are going on a nice much deserved cruise to Greece,” Jack said.

“And we plan on enjoying that and coming home and knuckling down again.”

What Jack didn’t say, which our spies told us, is that Dolphins head coach Rohan Taylor is actually booked on the same trip.

To say Jack is mortified is an understatement.

Elijah Winnington, who won silver and bronze, said he’ll be going to London with his parents and fiance.

“And then we’ll come back for the closing ceremony,’’ he said.

“I don’t want to say I’m glad it’s done but relieved. It’ll be good to spend time together.”

Gold medallist Brianna Throssell has been doing long distance with her boyfriend and will finally spend a month with him on holiday.

“I’ve been away for almost two months now,’’ she said.

“He’s from Melbourne so we’ve been doing distance and I’m excited we can spend some quality time together.”

Bronze medallist Kai Taylor said he would be meeting up with his parents before returning for the closing ceremony.

“It’s been amazing, to come from the week of trials it’s been a really long journey and I’ve loved all the experiences,’’ Taylor said.

“My girlfriend is here and my mum and dad and I’ll be able to spend a few days between now and closing ceremony with them. It’s my first time in Europe and Paris so we just want to explore.”

Emma McKeon and Cody Simpson are having a break in the countryside of France; Mollie O’Callaghan is heading to Dubrovnik in Croatia while Kyle Chalmers will spend time with his fiance Ingeborg Loyning and her family in Norway.

The medal winning swimmers got together yesterday afternoon with Speedo to celebrate their success. Others present included Emma McKeon, Lani Pallister and Tommy Neill.
