THE Aussie men have fallen short in the 4x100m relay event in the pool for the second Olympic Games running, failing to outpace the US team led by Michael Phelps.
James Magnussen, Cameron McEvoy, James Roberts and Kyle Chalmers all put in solid efforts but just couldn’t match the class of the US team.
Earlier the Opals won their second pool match in the basketball competition, Sam Stosur moved to the next round in the tennis, the women’s rugby sevens side booked a semi-final berth against Canada, the Kookaburras lost to Spain 1-0 in the hockey arena and the rowing was called off due to the weather.
Australia picked up a gold medal with Catherine Skinner nailing the shooting, and Anabelle Smith and Maddison Keeney grabbed bronze in the synchronised diving.
