JARED Tallent has received another gold medal after the Court of Arbitration for Sport dismissed an appeal by disgraced Italian walker Alex Schwazer.

JARED Tallent has received another gold medal after the Court of Arbitration for Sport dismissed an appeal by disgraced Italian walker Alex Schwazer.

The reigning Olympic champion has been elevated to the gold medal position at the IAAF World Race Walking Team Championships in Rome in May.

Schwazer, 31, raised eyebrows when he won the event by more than three minutes in what was his first competitive race after serving a 45-month ban for a positive test shortly before London 2012.

He has now been handed an eight-year suspension with Athletics Australia chief Phil Jones welcoming the decision.

“There is no place for doping in sport and Schwazer has a history of breaching the rules for his own personal benefit,” Jones said.

“It is appropriate that such decisive action be taken when such disregard for clean sport occurs.

“This is once again vindication for Jared Tallent, who will be elevated to the gold medal position in the men’s 50km walk at the IAAF World Race Walking Team Championships.

“His dedication to fighting for a level playing field for all athletes is exemplary and should be applauded.”

Tallent received the gold medal for the 50km walk at the London 2012 Games in June after Russian Sergey Kirdyapkin was stripped of the medal because of doping.

The Australian team captain is battling a hamstring niggle which forced him out of the 20km event in Rio but he remains confident of defending his 50km crown next Friday.
