What’s the Buzz: Andrew Johns wants his driver licence back

League Immortal Andrew Johns has appealed against a decision by road authorities to ban him from driving for 12 months because of his history of epilepsy.
In December last year, The Sunday Telegraph revealed the Channel 9 star collapsed in a Yamba coffee shop and was later diagnosed with epilepsy.
Under Service NSW rules, it is an automatic six-month licence ban.
Johns recently applied for his licence to be reinstated with the support of one of Australia’s leading neurologists, Professor Chris Levi.
He was rejected.
“Seriously, I’ve never been healthier,” Johns said.

“So, we’ve appealed and Professor Levi has written another letter to say I’m OK.
“I totally understood and accepted the six months. I’ve got a young family and there are other young families on the road you’ve got to think about.
“There’s not a chance in the world I’d drive if I thought I’d be endangering lives.
“I’ve got all my medication levels right and my doctor has put his medical reputation on the line.”
Johns has been using taxis and Uber since he lost his licence.
Channel 9 provides his transport on work days and his partner, Kate Kendell, also helps out.
He is back surfing in the eastern suburbs and has looked a picture of health while in Origin camp with the NSW Blues over the past six weeks.
At first, doctors said general tiredness was a contributing factor to his epilepsy.
“My little girl is sleeping through the nights now,” Johns said.
“I’m that healthy at the moment, it’s not funny. It’s frustrating but hopefully they’ll look at my appeal favourably.”
