‘What a joke’: Paul Kent blasts South Sydney’s response to Dane Gagai speculation

NRL 360 host Paul Kent has taken aim at one NRL club with suggestions they’re lying about a star player and his intentions to leave.

Dane Gagai reportedly wants out of the Rabbitohs.

Paul Kent has blasted South Sydney’s response to claims that Dane Gagai wants to leave the club as a “joke”.

It was reported on Tuesday that Gagai had been unhappy about James Roberts being signed to play centre, and forcing the Queensland Origin star onto the wing on a permanent basis and that as a result he would look to move on from the Rabbitohs.

Souths came out and rubbished those reports with coach Wayne Bennett saying: “I spoke to Dane this morning about reports in the media.

“He has refuted the reports and has said he is very happy playing with the Rabbitohs.”

Responding NRL 360, Kent said: “I feel sorry for Gagai that he has to lie to his teammates.

“The story is 100 per cent correct. He wants to play centre and if that means moving that’s what he’ll do.”

Kent then hit out at South Sydney’s handling of the signing of Roberts, when they are also alleged to have lied about the process.

The Bunnies repeatedly denied making contact with Roberts until when a few weeks later he was unveiled as a Souths player.

“South Sydney a month ago were lying to us about Jimmy the Jet coming to the club. Wayne Bennett comes out then repeats the lie and says ‘we had to throw you off the scent’,” Kent added.

“What a joke, it’s okay for Souths fans to sit there and say it’s okay to lie to us when you’re about to recruit a player like James Roberts

“Is it now okay for Souths fans to be lied to when a player legitimately has questions about his future at the club?”
