‘We haven’t done anything yet’: Hype building around the Broncos in 2025, but Adam Reynolds warns pundits not to get carried away

The return of Ben Hunt has plenty of people backing the Broncos to challenge for the title, but the club’s skipper has put the brakes on the hype train headed for Red Hill.

The Broncos have been tipped to be one the biggest risers this season, but skipper Adam Reynolds has reminded fans that his side hasn’t done anything yet even if there are high hopes that Ben Hunt’s return to the club and the arrival of Michael Maguire as coach can provide the leadership they need to be title contenders.

The Broncos endured a rough 2024 season which cost club legend Kevin Walters his job as coach, but it’s hard to see them running 12th again if their stars can buy into Maguire’s tougher approach.

The 2023 grand finalists start their season on Thursday night against the Roosters, and expectations will only grow if they can win in Sydney.

“We haven’t done anything yet,” Reynolds warned.

“Hypotheticals are all good, but if you listen to people on the outside, you end up on the outside.

“We know we’ve had a good pre-season and we’ve worked hard on it, but we just need to keep a lid on it.

“Nothing’s been done yet. We haven’t even kicked off our season yet. There’s still a lot of hard work left in front of us and we need to treat each week as importantly as the last.”

Reynolds, 34, will be joined by Hunt, 34, who is back at the Broncos after he left them in 2017 to join the Dragons.

The representative star will slot into the halves while five-eighth Ezra Mam is out suspended, with the Broncos to have a few fresh faces who impressed Maguire during the pre-season.

But all eyes will be on the veteran halves who have the potential to lead the most potent attack in the league if fullback Reece Walsh can produce his electrifying best after an up and down 2024.

“It’s great to have another leader in the team,” Reynolds said of Hunt.

“Experience plays a massive part. He knows when to pull the trigger and when not to.

“He’s got a good read on the game, he’s a super competitive person and he breeds that amongst the group as well.

“It’s important to have those types of calibre people in the team. He’s a winner and he’s shown that on the biggest stage.

“He’s going to be a handy addition who calms things down. When things don’t go perfectly out there, it’s good to have an experienced person to read the room and get us back to our processes.”
