Video has surfaced of Brisbane Broncos superstar Reece Walsh in an ugly exchange with a young fan just days out from the NRL grand final.

The incident occurred on Thursday afternoon as the Broncos fullback was heading away from the NRL Fan Fest at Circular Quay.

Walsh was walking past when a witness claims a fan told him that “Moses Leota will take your head off this weekend”.

Walsh is heard on the video responding, “I’ll take your mum’s”, as he is led away.

A complaint has been lodged with the NRL over the video.

“The NRL Integrity Unit is aware of the matter,” an NRL spokesman said.

The Broncos declined to comment when contacted, but have lodged an official complaint with the NRL over lack of security at the fan day.

Walsh has rockstar appeal in the game, but was left to walk 600m amongst fans after the event to get back to the team bus.

This masthead understands the integrity unit will seek more video footage from the complainant before determining whether Walsh has a case to answer for potentially bringing the game into disrepute.

The six-second clip does not capture what was allegedly said to spark the interaction, and cuts off abruptly following Walsh’s response.

“(The) young kid was visibly upset and shaken. I have sent the video to the NRL who have forwarded to the integrity unit for further investigation,” a witness told this masthead.

A television reporter can be seen in the background, just metres away from the incident.

Speaking on Triple M radio in Brisbane, Walters said Walsh needed to get used to the notoriety away from Queensland.

“It’s difficult for Walshy. You either love him or hate him and most people, thankfully, love him,” Walters said.

“We’re in a bit of foreign territory here in NSW so there’s going to be some people out there that are quite jealous of Reece and how he plays the game and his looks and all those things.

Kevin Walters doesn’t think there’s much in the Walsh incident.
Kevin Walters doesn’t think there’s much in the Walsh incident.

“So that’s something he’s going to have to get on top of for the rest of his career because the great players, way back to Wally Lewis, were often booed and heckled in Sydney. So he’s going to have to get used to that and just get on with things.”

Walters had only just found out about the incident on Friday afternoon, but doubted there would be any fallout to the incident.

“You can’t take the Nerang out of the Nerang boy,” he said.

“We understand there’s an investigation or some sort of thing into it but there won’t be much in it.”

It is an unwanted distraction for the Broncos, who will go into Sunday’s decider as underdogs as the try to stop Penrith winning a third straight premiership.

When the dust settles, Walters has not ruled out getting a Broncos tattoo if Brisbane shock Penrith to win the NRL premiership.

Broncos skipper Adam Reynolds is keen to add more ink and the 55-year-old Walters is primed for a second trip to the tattoo parlour after his maiden visit during a Kangaroo Tour in the 1990s.

“Reyno is full of tattoos, but that will be a question you have to ask my wife Narelle, not me,” Walters said with a laugh.

“I have got one tattoo from the Roos 1990s (tour) that is now unrecognisable on my arse.”
