Dolphins coach Wayne Bennett has put the Dragons on notice by declaring his interest in second-rower Jaydn Su’A.

According to the Daily Telegraph, the Origin hitman considered requesting a release from the Dragons last year but never put anything to the club formally.

He is contracted for another year but could be convinced to join his old coach should the Dragons endure another difficult season and the interest from Bennet should be “treated with alarm”, according to the Telegraph.

Bennett gave the 25-year-old his Broncos debut in 2016 and also handed the hard-hitting back-rower his first Queensland Origin jersey in 2020.

“I would certainly be interested in Jaydn Su’A,” Bennett told the newspaper.

“From my understanding, Jaydn has another year to go with the Dragons but I have a good relationship with him.

“He was a very good player for me at the Broncos, I brought him into first grade and then I gave him a chance at South Sydney when he was struggling with injury (at Brisbane) and he was outstanding for us at the Rabbitohs.

“If and when he becomes a free agent, if Jaydn wants to come back to Queensland, I’m certainly keen to talk to him.”

Su’A, however, said he was happy at the club.

“My partner is set-up down here, she works at one of the hospitals here.

“We obviously do miss our family. I don’t get to go home too much and that can be hard.

“There‘s obviously days where you miss home.

“But I’ve created a good bond with the boys. I need to play well to get that next extension.”

It comes as the Telegraph revealed a staggering 24 Dragons players could be available from November 1.

It means 80 per cent of the roster is yet to be re-signed beyond 2024.
