TITANS coach Garth Brennan insists NSW Origin utility Tyrone Peachey will honour his $1.5 million contract with the Gold Coast next year.

The rugby league rumour mill has been in overdrive recently with speculation Peachey was getting cold feet about his move to the Titans.

In March, Peachey inked a three-year deal to join the Titans in 2019.

He has since gone on to become a NSW Origin player and the Panthers sacked coach Anthony Griffin earlier this month.

Peachey’s rise, and the departure of Griffin, prompted suggestions the Indigenous All Stars representative could look to back out of his Gold Coast deal.

However Brennan, who worked with Peachey during his time at the Panthers, insisted that wasn’t the case after confronting Peachey and his manager Sam Ayoub over the rumours.

“I rang Sam and spoke to Tyrone about it, this was months ago,” he said.

“Both of them reassured me they were looking forward to (coming here).

“I heard Tyrone being interviewed when Anthony Griffin left and he said he had no issues with Anthony Griffin and wasn’t leaving because of Anthony Griffin.

“He was leaving because of salary cap pressure at the Penrith Panthers.

“He was contracted at Penrith and in a perfect world probably would have liked to have stayed there. But unfortunately it’s a business and the salary cap wouldn’t allow for him to stay at Penrith.

“He was aware of that and understood that and he is excited and looking forward to getting up here on the Gold Coast.”

The Titans have been burned by a backflipping player once before after Manly star Daly Cherry-Evans infamously reneged on a contract with the Gold Coast in 2015.

Cherry-Evans signed a four-year deal with the Titans before exploiting the now defunct Round 13 rule which allowed him to rescind on the contract.

The NRL abolished the Round 13 rule after the Cherry-Evans debacle.
