The top 25 future QLD Origin stars: part two

A Nudgee College perfectionist likened to Matt Gillett, a Marymount College back destined for the Broncos, and fiery forward from Caboolture. It’s part two of our future Origin stars series.

There’s always plenty of hype around players in the NRL who are about to make their mark on State of Origin.

But which young guns are showing their potential at the lower levels? Who are the teenagers impressing recruiters and scouts with their athleticism and dedication to making a career in the NRL?

While the pool of emerging talent in Queensland is deep, we’ve cut it back to 25 young guns that we’re excited about.

We will reveal five a day, every day this week. So make sure to check back in tomorrow. .

Corey Horsburgh (Canberra Raiders)

THE Redcliffe junior has been compared to Broncos duo Corey Parker and Josh McGuire for his on-field work rate. A fiery middle forward, Horsburgh hails from Caboolture and has plenty of experience under his belt, having played with the Cowboys in the under-20s. He has also been selected in the Queensland under-20s for the last two years. Now with the Raiders, there is a bright future ahead for the 20-year-old.

Fanitesi Niu (Brisbane Broncos)

A FULLBACK hailing from Inala, Niu has capped off a strong 2018 with the Australian Schoolboys tour of Britain. The Marsden State High School product has been labelled by the QRL as a “Queenslander to watch” after representing the state’s under-18s team a year young. He has formed a strong combination with fellow Bronco and Queenslander Tanah Boyd through these representative teams and is highly regarded as a star of the future.

Ethan Bullemor (Brisbane Broncos)

THE 18-year-old forward has modelled his game off Bronco Matt Gillett. An OP 1 student from Nudgee College, Bullemor is a perfectionist who has worked hard to achieve his goals on and off the field. He played under-18s and 20s with the Norths Devils in 2018 and even managed to squeeze in a couple of Intrust Super Cup appearances towards the end of the season. After representing the Queensland under-18s in the front row this year, he has now been named in the state’s under-20s emerging Origin squad.

Juwan Compain (Gold Coast Titans)

THE 17-year-old second-rower made the Australian schoolboys side that toured Britain this year. Tough, physical and professional in his approach, he was with the Broncos but requested to join the Titans’ elite development squad. He played in the Palm Beach Currumbin team that won the NRL Schoolboy Cup national final this year. In 2019, he is still eligible for under-18s and will play at Tweed Seagulls but may get some Intrust Super Cup exposure.

Xavier Coates (Brisbane Broncos)

A RECENT graduate from Marymount College, Coates is a tall and athletic outside back currently within the Broncos’ development system. The Gold Coast product also plays with Tweed Heads Seagulls and is known for his speed and ability under the high ball. Was last month named in the Queensland emerging Origin under-18s squad.
