Tyrone Roberts to join Gold Coast in 2016 on a two-year deal
TYRONE Roberts has been granted a release by Newcastle and will join the Titans in 2016 on a two-year contract.
NEWCASTLE halfback Tyrone Roberts has been released from the final year of his contract and will join the Titans in 2016 on a two-year deal.
The mercurial halfback has been linked with a move to the Titans for several weeks and is expected to partner young gun Kane Elgey in the halves next season.
Roberts has experienced a forgettable year with Newcastle and had long been expected to make room for new signing Trent Hodkinson.
“We would like to thank Tyrone for his contribution to the Newcastle Knights over the past nine years,” said Knights Director of Football Michael Hagan.

“He arrived at the club as a 15-year-old and has gone on to currently play 94 first grade games, which is an outstanding achievement.
“The Knights would like to wish him and his family every success in their future endeavours at the Gold Coast.”
Roberts made his NRL debut for the Knights in 2011 and Titans coach Neil Henry said he would be a vital cog in the Titans rebuilding process.
“Tyrone is an accomplished playmaker and goalkicker who has played nearly 100 first grade games and has all the skills.
“He will complement Ashley (Taylor) and Kane (Elgey) who are young players at the start of their NRL careers and gives us more depth in the squad next year.”
