TITANS captain Ryan James has turned up the heat on his Gold Coast teammates to make the club an NRL force.

The Titans will on Friday announce they have secured a new major sponsor in bookmaker Neds for the next three years, ensuring the club’s sponsorship stable is full.

With new owners at the helm, their front office in order and the hunt for a CEO to replace Graham Annesley ongoing, the Titans are the most stable they have been in years.

Now it is up to coach Garth Brennan and his team to find success on the field after finishing 14th last season.

James, 27, is preparing to embark on his third season as captain and said it was the playing group’s responsibility to fire on the field.

“It’s not so much the club, it’s the players,” he said.

“We need to work hard as a group to get there.

“I’ve been at the club when we’ve done that. You can tell the years when you’re working hard and everyone is buying into what you need to do.

“I thought last season everyone was buying into it, but we didn’t get the results at the end of the day.

“Footy is based on results. You need to start winning games.

“It takes something special to play finals footy every year and the great clubs seem to do it. The Titans are striving to be one of those clubs.”

The Titans will report for pre-season training on Monday, giving the club four months to prepare for its 2019 campaign.

Canberra recruit Shannon Boyd will be on board from Monday, but NSW Origin representative Tyrone Peachey will not join the club until next month after touring with the Kangaroos.

Brennan, entering his second season as coach, has some talent at his disposal following the emergence of AJ Brimson and $1 million-a-season halfback Ash Taylor.

But James said there was one facet of their game the Titans had to focus heavily on to be a force in 2019.

“I came out of last season thinking it was a half-decent season,” he said.

“We had a couple of tight games. The competition was so tight at one stage.

“We’ve got a few new faces coming on board and a few more to sign so we’re looking pretty good.

“We need to improve our defence, defence structure and buying into the system.

“We know we can score tries.”

Along with Neds coming on board, the Titans have locked up sponsors Trip-A-Deal and TFH Hire and welcomed Orbitz Elevators to round out their playing kits.

“As a club, we’re excited about the opportunities and are extremely appreciative of the support from Neds,” executive chairman Dennis Watt said.
