Tigers coach Ivan Cleary says his players are distracted by all the talk on player signings

TIGERS coach Ivan Cleary says the NRL must ‘sort out’ the current player transfer system after he admitted his players are distracted on the field by it.

THE transfer window needs to be seriously looked at as the intense talk of player movement and signings hijacks the game and is now impacting on some of the Wests Tigers players.

Mitchell Moses is sweating on an immediate release to Parramatta, and he appeared to struggle with his focus as he missed seven tackles.

Coach Ivan Cleary said: “I think it’s probably time the game looked at sorting this out or making it a better system.

“It’s got to a point this year, and it feels like more than other years - certainly at our club - it’s constant, and we’re not even halfway through year.

“There’s no doubt plenty of players are distracted.

“A transfer window, whether we have two, one mid-season and one at the end, that speculation is good for fans, but the fact it’s a window and not the whole time, that’s something to look at. I don’t think it’s healthy at the moment.’’

If there were a few transfers needed to be made right now at the Tigers, it would be the need for a few props.

An injury to skipper Aaron Woods and the sin-binning of Ava Seumanufagai quickly exposed how weak the Tigers are up front.

When The Saturday Telegraph put that to Cleary, he said: “That’s your opinion. We probably didn’t have anyone on there of the ilk of Sam Burgess for example.

“There’s only five of them. It’s hard on paper when you’re missing one. And missing an international front-rower as well. There were things in the game we didn’t control well enough.’’
