SACKED Wests Tigers coach Jason Taylor has hit back at explosive claims made by Balmain great Paul Sironen during his time at the joint venture.
Taylor woke to back-page headlines about his axing from the Tigers — but the Sironen quotes about how he was sacked by Taylor from the Holden Cup coaching staff at the end of 2014 with zero explanation really struck a nerve.
After unloading on Taylor in The Daily Telegraph, Sironen continued his tirade on Triple M early on Tuesday when he said: “Without a word, he (Taylor) never came to me once and said, ‘What’s your role here? What have you done?’ It was a case of, ‘see you later’ and I took that fairly personally as you would expect.’’

But Taylor rubbished those claims and said: “I never sacked Paul Sironen and I never communicated his sacking to him.
“I also never made any decisions about NYC staffing at that time.
“As to Paul’s comments about what was said after he was sacked, I, in fact, went up to him, shook his hand and gave him my commiserations. He looked me in the eye and said, ‘it’s OK, I know it wasn’t your decision’.’’
It’s understood the football department with the backing of then-CEO Grant Mayer made the decision not to renew Sironen’s contract.
Sironen maintained the Tigers wasted no time clearing out the Holden Cup coaching staff.

Taylor would not comment any further on his situation, nor how he was feeling after being shown the door after three rounds.
Tigers chief executive Justin Pascoe and chairwoman Marina Go revealed late Monday they were left with no choice but to terminate Taylor’s contract after successive floggings against Penrith and Canberra.
They also “observed’’ Taylor may have lost the respect of the players.
Interim coach Andrew Webster did not make any wholesale changes to the squad as he prepares for his first game in charge against Melbourne at Leichhardt Oval on Sunday afternoon.
