THE Wests Tigers have landed a critical piece in their rebuild after luring Canterbury fullback Moses Mbye on a four-year NRL deal, beginning next season.

Mbye had two more years to run on his heavily back-ended contract with the Bulldogs, but his release at the end of the year will give the club some salary cap room to hit the player market.

The club recently revealed Mbye was the only fullback on their roster next year.

“Today I would like to confirm that Moses Mbye has sought a release from his current contract which the club has granted,” Bulldogs chief executive Andrew Hill said on Tuesday.

“I’d like to take this opportunity to thank Moses for his time with the Bulldogs and his contribution to the club on and off the field.

“Even though he will be taking up an offer to join the Wests Tigers for season 2019, I know that he is committed to putting all his energies into the Bulldogs for the rest of this season and finishing strongly with the club.”

Mbye is the second Bulldogs’ player the Tigers have signed in the past year, having also signed Josh Reynolds as the club’s long-term five-eighth under coach Ivan Cleary.

After making the switch from the halves to fullback this year, Mbye is currently third in the league in kick return metres and has arguably been the Bulldogs’ most potent player in attack.

The Tigers have utilised Corey Thompson and Tuimoala Lolohea in the No.1 jumper this year, with both players holding deals until the end of next season.

“Moses is a talented young man and we look forward to having him join Wests Tigers next season,” coach Ivan Cleary said.

“He’s developed into an exciting player and I know he’ll bring a lot to our club, both on and off the field.”
