The NRL competition committee won’t be reducing interchange numbers for 2020

The NRL will not be reducing the number of interchanges in a match after the competition committee met on Tuesday afternoon.

The NRL won’t be reducing the number of interchanges any time soon after the competition committee met on Tuesday.

The NRL Competition Committee recommended no changes be made to the current interchange system with the recommendation will now go to before Australian Rugby League Commission to make a final decision.

“On the evidence presented, there is simply not enough reason to change the number of interchanges now,” said Penrith Panthers coach Ivan Cleary. “

“We made the point last year that we wanted to defer until halfway through this year to make a decision based on the way the game is heading.

“Now that we have done that, we feel there is no need to make a change.”

The NRL reduced the number of interchanges from 10 to eight in 2015.
