AN NRL premiership ring, Clive Churchill Medal and the winning owner of next year’s $10 million The Everest.
That’s the dream for Melbourne Storm champion Billy Slater who, in between the most thrilling season of his career, has been working on a new business venture called Slater Thoroughbreds.
A former trackwork jockey for Gai Waterhouse, Slater’s love for horse racing is well documented.
He’s a Racing Queensland ambassador, never misses the Melbourne Cup carnival and has recently purchased a farm in rural Victoria where he and his family plan to raise cattle and horses.

WHAT’S THE BUZZ: Saint, sinner, shoosh
In its formative stages, the development of Slater Thoroughbreds has begun with the breeding of high quality horses.
The Test fullback also attended the leading yearling sales this year.
Slater has spruiked several of his future talent in recent weeks on Instagram, including a Written Tycoon colt and a Wandjina-Inishowen colt that Slater said “the kids have named Joey”.
The only question is: will Slater Thoroughbred’s jockey colours be Melbourne’s purple, Queensland’s maroon or Australia’s green and gold?
