NRL 2021: Melbourne Storm’s Josh Addo-Carr in pre-season training at Lennox Head

Storm winger Josh Addo-Carr remains locked out of Victoria due to COVID — so he’s taken a unique approach to pre-season training.

Josh Addo-Carr and Melbourne teammate George Jennings have been keeping in shape on the New South Wales north coast while the duo remain locked out of Victoria due to border restrictions.

The “Fox” has been trapped in NSW since spending the Christmas break in Sydney while Jennings left Melbourne for the Harbour City earlier this month to be with his partner for the birth of their first-born son.

The pair have since travelled north to Lennox Head where they have joined a local training group, who happened to be headed up by Wallabies attacking coach Scott Wisemantel and former Wallabies utility Berrick Barnes, to maintain their fitness during the pre-season period.

Storm football manager Frank Ponissi confirmed the pair had been training remotely while being locked out of Victoria.

“Josh wasn’t due back at training until last Friday but obviously he was in Sydney and part of the red zone so he’s been in limbo waiting for an exemption to come back,” Ponissi said.

“George was here training with the team on January 4 but his partner went into labour with their first child so he went back to Sydney for the birth, which unfortunately put him back in the red zone.

“Both of them are waiting for exemptions from the Victorian government, so rather than wait, we decided to send them up to Lennox Head to a sport and rec camp.

“They’re not training on their own either – they’ve joined a group of young blokes who Wisey (Wisemantel) and Berrick (Barnes) train up there.

“It’s good for Josh and George to have other boys to train with.”

Both Addo-Carr and Jennings are waiting for an exemption from the Victorian government to return to Melbourne in time to join the infamous Storm camp by the end of the week.

If not, they can both return early next week after spending 14 days outside of Sydney and therefore allowed to fly home.
