Cameron Smith doesn’t want Parramatta to endure a season without points

CAMERON Smith says he won’t be upset if Parramatta don’t lose their points as he doesn’t want anyone to go through what the Storm did in 2010.

MELBOURNE Storm skipper Cameron Smith won’t be upset if Parramatta aren’t stripped of all NRL competition points for salary-cap cheating as he says he doesn’t want another player to experience what his side did.

The Eels are reportedly set to lose up to 10 points for their alleged systematic cheating.

In 2010 the Storm forfeited all points for the season plus two premiership titles and a huge fine for the same offence.

SERIOUSLY: Fittler would pick Hoppa over Tedesco

ANGER: Graham hates the PC brigade

A group of Storm fans are reportedly putting together a petition for NRL chief executive Todd Greenberg asking that Parramatta suffer the same fate and not play for competition points this year. But Smith said he was comfortable with whatever the NRL decided. “I haven’t been following it closely but I wouldn’t like any other players to have to go through what we went through back in 2010,” Smith said.

“It was an awful year.” Melbourne’s punishment was swiftly dealt with and their penalties announced the same day as the findings of the NRL investigation and Smith said he was pleased to see the NRL taking a bit more time with the Eels.

“Our punishments were handed out rather quickly and it’s good to see the NRL are actually using some due process to go through this situation with Parramatta.

“It has taken a fair while but at the end of the day I’ve got no thoughts on what punishment should be handed to anyone,” Smith said.
