LUKE Lewis wants to play five weeks of consistent football before deciding if he’ll continue his illustrious career beyond this season.
Lewis, 34 and off-contract, is weighing up if he’ll run around in 2019.
The veteran forward originally placed a round 15 deadline on a decision, but hamstring and calf injuries have forced him to delay a final verdict on his future.
“I know it’s only round 12, but I want to play some footy first and just see how I’m feeling,” Lewis said.
“It would have been nice to know where I was at mentally by about round 14 or 15, but I haven’t had a chance to play four or five weeks in a row.
“I played four games and then did my calf, so I just want to play some consistent football and see how I’m feeling after six or seven weeks of footy and go from there.

“But at the moment it is telling me to play on because I feel fresh having played no footy.”
Lewis may be one of Cronulla’s oldest players alongside skipper Paul Gallen, but he insists he isn’t feeling fatigued.
He says the Sharks’ cast of young stars have given him valuable energy to push through training and match their enthusiasm.
“I’m a big believer that age is just a number,” he said.
“It has probably not been the most outstanding start to the season not being on the field, but I’ve learnt a lot watching these young guys come through.
“It has given me the passion and love to get back out on the field with those guys and enjoy the ride with them.”
After a month on the sideline, Lewis can’t wait to take on the Knights in Newcastle on Sunday.
“I’m super excited,” he said.
“There is a little bit of pressure to be honest on myself and Wade (Graham).
“The boys have been going really well without us. I’m just looking forward to getting out there on Sunday afternoon.”
