CRONULLA were left to rue missed opportunities as they fell short of an upset against a rampant Roosters outfit.

Find out who starred and who struggled in our player ratings.

1. James Tedesco – 8

Constantly involved and threw two great passes for tries. Won his dual with Holmes.

2. Daniel Tupou – 6

Had a great running battle with Lee, which he won on a points decision, and did all the little things right.

    3. Latrell Mitchell – 6

Not a huge attacking game but made some great tackles. His effort on Lewis was one of the plays of his young career.

    4. Joseph Manu – 5

Was targeted in defense but did enough. A fine effort for a crucial try before halftime.

    5. Blake Ferguson – 6

Worked and worked and worked some more. Crucially, also made no mistakes.

    6. Luke Keary – 5

Not really his style of game but he played his part in creating some tries.

    7. Cooper Cronk - 9

A masterclass. His fingerprints were on everything the Roosters did from the start.

    8. Jared Waerea-Hargreaves – 7

The most important forward on the team helped the Chooks stand up against the rugged Sharks.

    9. Jake Friend – 6

Plenty of work and a couple of promising forays.

    10. Sio Suia Taukeiaho – 1

Got hurt early and didn’t return.

    11. Boyd Cordner – 6

Never stops running his excellent lines on the left edge. Led by example, as he does.

    16. Mitchell Aubusson – 6

You’re not going to believe this, but Aubusson was solid as ever and held up his end, as he has since the dawn of time.

    12. Isaac Liu – 5

Tackled well but not as much impact with the ball.

    13. Victor Radley – 6

Did some really nice things around the ruck with ball in hand.

    14. Lindsay Collins – 4

Short stint but ran bloody hard.

    15. Zane Tetevano – 7

Only Cordner and Waerea-Hargreaves had more metres. Lifted with Taukeiaho out. Punishing at all times.

    16. Ryan Matterson - 5

Always looks better in the middle and used his size well.

    1. Valentine Holmes – 7

Never stopped trying but couldn’t quite get involved at the death. Could have backed himself a little more.

    2. Sosaia Feki – 6

Scored a try and did what he needed to do out of his own end.

    3. Josh Dugan – 3

This was a tough one. Made some poor defensive reads and had a crucial error off a Holmes break.

    4. Ricky Leutele - 5

Mixed bag. Magic pass for Feki’s opener but bombed one later in the half and let in another just before the break.

    5. Edrick Lee – 6

Did very well to dot down off a Townsend kick. His battle with Tupou was a highlight.

    6. Matt Moylan – 4

Tough one. Had some nice touches in the first half but couldn’t engineer a score in the second. Made a backbreaking mistake late.

    7. Chad Townsend – 7

Looked Cronulla’s most creative player. Attacking kicking game was on point late. Unlucky not to have conjured the equaliser.

    8. Andrew Fifita – 8

He is mighty. Played 50 great minutes to start and lifted the Sharks in his second stint.

    9. Jayden Brailey - 4

Didn’t play many minutes but tackled well when he did.

    10. Matt Prior – 7

Built for this. Hits hard, early and often and always leads the line. Kick pressure was constant.

    11. Luke Lewis – 6

Honest as ever but he’ll think about that late drop for some time.

    12. Wade Graham – 4

Losing him is a hammer blow and his pass to Leutele showed why.

    13. Paul Gallen - 6

Worked and worked, as he has for the last several centuries.

    14. James Segeyaro – 5

Provided some spark when he came on but couldn’t create points.

    15. Aaron Woods – 6

First finals game in a long time and did well after he came on, particularly in defense.

    16. Jayson Bukuya – 5

You know what you’re getting at this point with Bukuya and he didn’t let anyone down.

    17. Scott Sorensen – 5

Got big minutes with Graham injured but couldn’t do much with them.
