SYDNEY Roosters playmaker Luke Keary is in doubt for the opening round of the NRL season after breaking his jaw at training.

Keary had an operation on Wednesday to insert a plate in his jaw.

It’s believed the incident happened at training over the weekend after he collided with a teammate during a contact drill, but isn’t considered serious.

Despite there being less than six weeks until the NRL season kicks off, Roosters officials are hopeful he will be fit for their round-one clash with Wests Tigers on March 10.

The Roosters are already resigned to losing Keary for all of their trial matches.

Keary, who turns 26 on Saturday, is set to form a new halves partnership with big-name signing Cooper Cronk.

Reports uggest Keary will miss at least of month of training and all of the club’s trial matches, although he is expected to be ready for selection in round one.

The 25-year-old suffered the injury after colliding with a teammate during training last weekend. He had an operation on Wednesday with a plate inserted in the jaw.

It is a big blow to coach Trent Robinson’s preparations for the season, with Keary now unavailable for key sessions to integrate with new teammates James Tedesco and Cooper Cronk.
