Roosters pursue Tigers captain Aaron Woods as possible package deal with James Tedesco

THE Sydney Roosters first launched an audacious bid to sign Wests Tigers star James Tedesco — now the Bondi club plan to pursue team-mate Aaron Woods.

The Daily Telegraph understands Woods has been offered to the Roosters — and there is interest.

It could mean the Sydney Roosters pinch the prop and fullback Tedesco from Concord as a package. The pair are worth a combined annual salary of around $2 million.

Canterbury however can’t be discounted. The Bulldogs have prepared substantial four-year offers for Tedesco and Woods and remain slight favourites ahead of the Roosters.

Woods is Wests Tigers through and through but is considering quitting the club for a more glamorous spot at either the Bulldogs or Roosters.

Wests Tigers have also put forward lucrative offers to Tedesco and Woods and remain hopeful, rather than confident, of retaining the pair. The club’s upset win over North Queensland may have boosted their chances of re-signing both players.

The Monday Bunker crew dissect the latest in the player market, the Tigers first up win under Ivan Cleary and the Dragons rise to the top of the ladder.

It is likely now that Tedesco and Woods will play together at either Wests Tigers, Canterbury or Sydney Roosters.

It is understood the Bulldogs will meet with the management of Tedesco and Woods tomorrow to nail down official four-year offers.

Canterbury would however be forced to offload several players to sign Woods and Tedesco. Some names already touted include Will Hopoate, Josh Reynolds and James Graham.

Graham is a club favourite and would be difficult to cull although Newcastle has expressed an early interest should the English forward be squeezed out of Belmore.

The Daily Telegraph reached out to Roosters coach Trent Robinson for comment about Woods but he did not respond.

Last week, Robinson told The Daily Telegraph he “wouldn’t talk about recruitment.”

“I can’t help out,” Robinson texted.

Wests Tigers will target Josh Dugan, Cooper Cronk, Shaun Johnson and Gareth Widdop if the club has additional money to spend through the possible exit of Moses, Woods and Tedesco.

Speculation mounted yesterday that Mitch Moses was considering backflipping on his Eels deal to remain at Wests Tigers but this was denied by his management.

There was additional rumours that halfback Luke Brooks wanted to renege on his Wests Tigers deal and shift to Melbourne as a replacement for departing Cooper Cronk. This was also denied.

The rugby league rumour mill has been overdrive with Kieran Foran still heavily linked to Canterbury. Foran wants to return to Sydney to be closer to his young family. Some close to the star player though feel he could avoid the spotlight and limelight of Sydney by remaining in Auckland for another year or two.
